I want to install a system in my Chev Z71 that sounds good from low to high end. I don't care about shaking the windows out. What are some good 4x6 speakers and what kind of amp for front and rear speakers? Replies (7) swez on 02/23/2009 00:52:23 That's pretty hard to do with 4x6" format speakers. They don't handle lower midrange well at all and best used above 500 Hz. A good sub will provide lows up to say 80-120 Hz. But the gap between 120 - 500 Hz is often managed by 6.5-8.0" Midbass speaker(s), elsewhere in the cabin. (ie: front doors or center console) What options are available in your Z71 Chevy? Swez Scrandal on 02/23/2009 08:36:49 Swez, I can modify the rear pillars to put what I want in there. What do you recommend? Would a 4 channel amp work well with that system? Scrandal on 02/23/2009 09:07:11 Swez, I have 2-8" Bazooka's. I could put them in the extended cab. Randy swez on 02/23/2009 14:37:12 Randy, This truck model pops up here once in a while and if I recall rightly, the front door speakers are larger. (5-1/4" or 6-1/2", either will fill the void in the 80 Hz and up range) What do you have in the front doors now and what year is this truck? The pair of Bazooka's should fill in the bass well enough with adequate amplification. Which model # zook's do you have now and is there room behind the rear seats to mount them vertically? As for amping your system, yes that would indeed up the ante and make things sound a whole lot better. A 4-6 channel would amp would do wonders if you already have a good Aftermarket radio installed. (3 pairs of RCA's would be great, but 2 pairs would be enough) As for the rear pillar 4x6" in back, the stock speakers are very limited in range and power. If you can have a good look back there and see a way to mount 5-1/4" rounds or 5x7/6x8" coaxial ovals in there, that would really help the rear stage mid/highs. Comments? Swez Scrandal on 02/23/2009 15:37:14 Swez It is a 2000 Chevy Silverado. I just bought son Blaupunkt GTc 542 and replaced the door speakers. I have a Kenwood KAC-823 from my older truck. I had the 10 JL speaker in it and it sounded good. The rear panels have a pocket made into them. That's why I wanted to stick with something to replace the 4x6's. I thought I would bridge the Kenwood and put it on the 10" woofer and get a 4 channel amp for the remainder speakers. I have a new Kenwood BT742U HU and it has 3 outputs for amps. Frt, back, and sub. I just want a good sound from the system. Do you have your own shop? Scrandal on 02/23/2009 18:35:51 Swez The Bazooka's have a number on the back..WF842 swez on 02/23/2009 20:22:17 Ok, these are raw woofers w/o enclosures, 4 ohms, 2" SVC and likely power rating under 200 watts per sub. Great, no tech info on enclosure size for them either. You'll have to contact Tech Service for specs on box and power ratings: (1 800 the tube) is their hotline. As for amping these subs, you'll have to use the Kenwood 2 channel, one sub per channel. (DO NOT BRIDGE) Bridging the amp to a net 2 ohm load will be very hard on the amp. If lucky, it would get hot and go into protect mode. If not, the amp will overheat and fry. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
