JVC kd-lh 810 face pivots only half way and will not eject the CD. The emergency eject fuction does not help. I have had a problem with angling the face, it getting stuck, and then I get the error message "connection error". I have been able to use the reset button in the past but this time It will not solve my problem.

This is sometimes related to cold weather, internal gears are wearing out or the eject function is out of alignment.

You may have had success with manual eject before, but that's not working anymore. How old is this player anyway? (Older Arsenal Series right?)

Here's the manual and users guide. Look up the troubleshooting section starting on page 46:

I suspect you have a jam in the mechanical motorized face panel. If you move the face plate and hit eject manually, does that work?

Swez,
Thank you for taking the time to ponnder my problem.
1st off cold weather is an issue as I live north of minneapolis,MN. The deck itself is a year and one half old. I have been thur the manual and it has been no help.
The way this deck operrates to eject disk is for the face to pivot down . It also has an angle fuction. If I try to eject the disk the face will pivot about 1/4 of it's stroke, stop, and return to the closed position. If I try the angle feature, the face will pivot about the same amount but display the error message "connection error". The interface of connectors look clean but could you suggest a better way to clean these? I have done alcohol and Q-tips.
Of course I have the reset button many times. No change.
I have not pulled the deck to see if there is anyway to get to the gear/rack system to look for obstruction.
I have tried pushing eject and at the same time moving the face back and forth. No luck.

if you suspect bad contacts one of the best ways to clean them is with a pencil eraser. Carbon builds up after a little while but the eraser will take it right off.

Yeah, it sounds more like a mechanical binding issue or the eject function is damaged.

Fixing this on your own is a long shot. Sending it out for repairs to an Authorized repair facility nets about $50.00 labor + parts + S/H both ways and loss of use for several weeks. Not a great option huh?

Consider an upgrade as a possible option. Pioneer, Eclipse & Alpine all have a wide range of products and features that may be very handy. If you can, consider shifting to I-Pod or MP3 portable players down the road. CD's are fine, but I-Pod, MP3 and other new add ons tend to be much more reliable.

Last thought... does this JVC offer a CD Changer feature? If it does and you can get one at a fair price, consider that route as an option too.

Comments?

PS As ttocs suggested, it would not hurt to clean the connections between the face panel and contacts on the base player to insure good contact. A pencil erasure does a good job of "burnishing" off oxides on the contacts. Just rub and then use a small brush to remove any debris.
