Initial wiring my new Pioneer HU for some reason i have found a couple different radio wiring schematics on the net for my 1996 honda civic i got the wire pretty much dwn (as for speakers) but for some reason i cannot get memory after all speakers are wired i have left the acc, pwr, on the HU and on the car i have the yellow/red which says ign and it says Blue/white for constant pwr but i am left with the yellow/red (white with blue strip a Red wire (red and black which i have wired to the ILL) my deck will only turn on if i hok the acc and pwer from the HU to the Yellow/red in the car i am left with the white/blue and red the previous owner cut the wires and rite now i do not have the origional plug so until i find one i am just wiring it from wire to wire. i have requested from my honda dealership the wiring riagram for my car but id like to get this done sooner than wait until he has the time to do it( could be weeks) knowing him Replies (10) ttocs on 02/18/2009 16:49:23 Welcome to the forum. You should never connect wires that you have not tested, even if they color match what your color code says. The proper tools needed to test each wire is nothing more then a volt meter/test light and a small battery(AA). With these two basic tools you do not even need a color code if you follow these instructions. http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?t36 If you don't have a meter or test light I am willing to bet a friend does. IT is a basic tool that should be in any modern tool box. swez on 02/18/2009 18:44:45 Here's a pretty reliable source for wiring color codes for your Civic: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1049.html 1. The Constant +12, (Blue/White) goes to the yellow HU wire 2. The ACC/IGN +12, (Yellow/Red) goes to the red HU wire 3.The Black wire, (Ground) should go to bare metal in the dash, floorpan or firewall. Do not use the factory harness ground FYI: I checked with my wire supplier on speaker wire for your project and the price is higher than what you'd pay from Knu. (His wire is commercial/industrial grade and costs more. Why pay more for the middlemen and needless delays? Even if I got it at cost + 10%, its still higher that Knu offers. Go that route OK? Swez PS If you have not done so already, read my last post as it contains a step-by-step of what to do and how to do it. McCallum84 on 02/19/2009 08:32:57 i try hooking it up that way but i get nothing( the Ble/white wire in my car is only a White/blue fuses are all good the only way i am able to get any pwer going to it is if i hook the main harness yellow/red to the HU red/acc and also the yellow/pwr but no memory no matter how it is hooked same with the rest of the HU i have installed in this cars past. i have been consistantly re-reading each step u have provided me soon as i pick up all hardware i need i am going to tackle the rewiring. swez on 02/19/2009 09:33:50 You may have to run a dedicated line for +12 volt Constant from the BAT. This line needs to be fused to the gage of wire used. Once you have this installed and fished into the cabin, the station memory and other setup details will be held in memory. What is the HU fused at? That will determine the wire gage needed. It sounds like your factory wire, (+12 Constant) is not working. Most often, that is fused and even if the fuse looks good, it may not be. Yes, keep reading the details mentioned in your other post. If you have questions, perhaps we can hash them out in diagrams via e-mail or a few short phone calls. Comments? Swez McCallum84 on 02/19/2009 09:45:41 10amp small fuse for the HU swez on 02/19/2009 10:31:06 A 10A fuse... OK! A #14 gage wire is plenty for this and a 10A inline fuse it shall be. If you want to test the plan, run a single #14 gage wire, inline fuse of 10A's off the Pos terminal off the battery and pull it in to the cabin via an open window on either side of the car and test the system that way. Leave the inline fuse out until the wiring is complete. The last thing you'll install, is the inline fuse. Turn the HU on and them program a few basic MEM functions. If they hold, (And they will) you can now snake this wire into the cabin as you see fit and use it on the YELLOW wire from the HU harness. Got all that? Swez McCallum84 on 02/20/2009 09:39:36 ThankYou Swez & ttocs I now have my Pioneer HU installed *With MeMory!!next job is the 4 speakers. following all your directions i should haveit done soon enough thank you all once again P.S Swez You are a life saver! if it hadnt ben for you helping me through all these snags im sure i would blown everything up car included and not by accident! Josh swez on 02/20/2009 10:44:16 Take some credit on being "proactive" on your end too Mc. CLAP We love working with guys in the early stages as opposed to picking up the pieces from a poor set of gear options that work against you. (Frustrated, broke and out of options) FYI: Too many guys talk to thier friends or big box salemen that don't understand the details and just pass their ignorance on to others. The guy gets the bug, buys a bunch of stuff that does not match well and is hung for details as they begin the install, only to learn later that they are in way over their heads and broke. In your case, you came here to learn, ask questions and work out the details on a line-by-line basis. You have a head start as the gear you have is compatible, buying smart with helpful support here and passed the first big hurdle... a successful HU install. The next steps are wiring up your gear. This will be a lesson in patience and determination. Expect it to be challenging, but doable. The best part of this phase, you'll know where every wire and connection is located for diagnostics and troubleshooting, should that be needed later. Have you settled on your wire, hardware supplier yet? It would be wise to review all wiring and harware you'll need to have on hand in the latter stages. If you have it all nailed down and on hand, the rest will go much smoother. If you need help with that shopping list, just ask. Swez COFFEE McCallum84 on 02/20/2009 13:11:52 i have checked around my town but none seems to be able to get me what im looking for... unless i want to pay extreme pricing from a privated installer.. there are a few major city's within ahour or two from me (Moncton N.B) and Halifax N.S im about to take my search abit wider. swez on 02/20/2009 16:21:50 Hum, out in the sticks or boonies as we say. Ouch! Oh my, you are way up in NE CAN. (East of Maine, USA?) Are there some good Internet suppliers you can access for purchases needed? Many will accect credit cards or pre-paid moneygrams, (Western Union) for purchases made. If not, you'll have to make a trip to the closest large town, have a full shopping list handy and buy what you need from them. As for the fishing wire tool, you can make one from a cheap metal coat hanger. Or, if your friends or family know an electrician, he'll give you a few feet of 12/2 Romex.
