bi-amping / 2 amps 1 sub (wiring)

I have 2 digital design c2 amps which I plan to run on a pair of Alpine SWR 1542d subs. My Q is, how to properly run two amps (bi - Amp) into 1 mono signal and into 1 pair of speaker wires, at a 4 ohm load?

Bi-amping is when you use two channels of an amps system to play multiple componants that are on one channel. you are just adding a 2nd amp. I would never recomend doing this with out the use of an osciliscope as if you have them tuned a little bit differently you will get cancellations between the subs and loose bass.

Is this the amp version you have now?

I don't see any logical need to use more than 1 amp to power both sub noted. Why is that Swez? Am glad you asked...

When you bridge this amp MONO, it will deliver over 600 watts RMS to the pair. (310 RMS/sub, 4 ohm load, if not a tad more). Yes, the subs are rated to take much more power, but the SPL output VS watts available is minimal.

Here's how things work:

X dB @ 300 RMS = Y dB/sub
X dB @ 600 RMS = Y +3dB/sub

If we doubled the RMS power, we gain a modest +3dB. That's not much bang for the extra wattage right? (+3dB is barely audible to the human ear, but a +6 dB bump is)

To get that extra few dB's, we either change subs, amp(s) or go for a very efficient enclosure. Since you have the amps and subs already, your best value will be in using a Ported or Band Pass enclosure. Both are efficient designs and will give the most SPL bump for the gear you have now.

If you used the SWR-1522D version subs, then both amps can be used to almost full potential. (One sub per amp in bridged mode) But the expense to do so is large unless you were able to swap A for B at minimal cost.

Got all that?
Swez

Thanks Swez, your help has been greatly appreciated. Got all that, but will undoubtedly be back to inquire about more of those little trade secrets you have boxed up in that dome piece of yours! Once again, Thanx!
