I have 2 Alpine SWR 1542d subs, as well as, 2 Alpine SWX 1242d subs. My question is, what type of enclosure would do these subs the most justice? And, what specs on said box would give me a tuning around 35 - 40 hz.? I've got a DD C2, to power either pair. Thanks! Replies (2) Pupdawg on 01/31/2009 01:26:07 I have an '01 Pontiac Bonneville, and a '74 Olds Delta '88. The 12's will go in the Bonneville, and the 15's in the Olds. swez on 01/31/2009 11:47:24 Here are Alpine's manuals for each sub mentioned. Alpine SWX 1242D: Manual http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/OM_SWX-1242D.PDF Alpine SWR-1542D: Manual http://vault.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/OM_SWR-1542D.PDF If you have Adobe Reader on your computer, save each document for future references. (Adobe Reader is free off the Internet) Google search is best to find freeware. There's an optimal range for each sub in sealed and ported enclosures. Sealed boxes give a smooth response at the low end and generally handle more power. Sealed is easy to build and a good all a round daily driver. (0.85-0.9 cf/sub is good internal target for each enclosure) Tech Tip: If you build 1 larger box for both subs, make sure to use a divider panel so that you have 2 sealed or ported chambers. (3/4" MDF wood) Ported designs will deliver more bass at the port tuning frequency and better for Rap and Hip Hop. They tend to handle power well, but not as well as sealed boxes. When using a ported design, you must use an Infrasonic filter or Subsonic filter to protect the woofers from excess excursion. Finally, your '74' Olds will probably need electrical upgrades under the hood to power the 15's properly. Each can handle 750 watts RMS and the amp will be in the 1,500 watt range, Class D is best and 1 ohm stable. An amp in this class will draw over 130 amperes of current at full power. The same applies to your Bonneville. The SWX series subs can handle up 1000 watts per sub. Same drill here and a stronger amp can be used. Comments/questions?
