I installed my Freeway 2685 cd/dvd into my 96 civic! works alright but when i turn on my ignition and the amp kicks on it send power through the subs and lets out a unwanted thump when power hits it..
as i said with this deck it has a fuse box on the power ignition and ground wire some kind of noise reductor but when i turn on my deck i can hear the power going to the subs (humm) kind of sound.
i noticed the light on my amp turns red yellow and green but it is always red.
im ready to give up
Josh....

Sounds like a few things to look into here Josh. Don't lose sleep in this as there are common reasons to check out in any quality install. These are rookie issues that many face until they understand all the key details. (Don't give up before you really learn something OK?)

1. The "humm" tells us two, possibly 3 issues to look at
a. Poor grounding in the audio chain
b. Loose or poor quality RCA's or connections
c. Amplifier has an internal problem to test out (Not likely)

The popping noise tells me the amp is powering up before the HU signals arrive at the amp. There's often an audible thump. Depending on how loud the "pop" is, can be hard on subs.

??? Did you use the Blue REMote trigger wire on this HU to turn on the amps or a direct line to the fuse panel?

??? Is the amp light always on, even when the key is out of the ignition? Have a look to be sure OK?

??? Tell us the Make and Model #'s of your amp & subs. (A hyperlink to them is even better)

??? Where did you ground the amp line? (Bare metal I hope)

Okay, another key part to a quiet, noise free install is proper grounding of your HU player. DO NOT use the factory harness ground. Ground direct to bare metal in dash, floor pan or firewall !!! (Very important)

Another issue is to install the power feed lines on one side of the car and the RCA signal lines on the other. (18" - 24") apart is minimum. (Each under the opposite carpet rails are best)

That's enough info to keep ya busy for now. I suspect it's a "Ground Loop" issue causing most of these snigglets. Your car is pretty solid and trouble free for most installs, but if the grounding is not done properly, it creates several undesirable conditions. (Most of which you have mentioned and I am addressing)

Well being dark outside rgith now I am goning to change the grounding for the HU because i do have it wired to the stock ground wire. also i am going to clean up my connections!
i dont think it would hurt to go out and pick up a whole new wire kit the one in my car is kinda old. i will change most of everything tomorrow and let u know.
also what are the advantages if i put a compacitor on it?
i am running two 12" mtx terminators and a terminator amp
i will have to go into the car and check out the fine print
the amp "says" 400w

the amp doesnt stay on it comes on with ignition before the HU
also the HU didnt have any wire attached that said memory.
i have an unused antenta power, parking brake and reverse but i believe those are for a an antenna that comes up when cars turned on and thje reverse for a back-up camera which the HU has hook ups for.
every time i turn on the HU i have to re program ALL settings.
i have two unused wire on the car a red one and a red and black one.. i cannot find out what they are for.. i had to hook the ignition and power together. i have a wire that is said to be memory (white/blue) but nothin from the HU.

if you hook up the memory (white/blue) to a 12volt power source that will solve the issue of having to reprogram the HU everytime you turn it on...

swez or one of the golds can probably help you out with a good place to hook up the memory wire to..

i have the the 12v+ and the ignition wire hooked together is that making a difference?
i hooked them to the suggested wires and all i got was blue light on the pwr button but nothin else wouldnt even eject the disc so i had to hook them together..
if i hook the memory all together what would happen
keep in mind this deck has its own noise reductor and fuse line on the 12v+ ignition and ground..

The plot thickens...

You have no memory presets as that lead is not connected to a constant +12 volt lead. This one stays at +12 all the time to keep your presets and memory and goes to the BATTERY + terminal or BAT lug in your fuse box.

Blue with a white stripe generally designates REMote turn on to AUX devices like an amp. To verify that, we use a DC voltage meter. It has power on it, only when the HU/CD/DVD player is on.

OK, now I remember the amp & subs as I did look them up. The way they are now, the subs get ~200 watts RMS from this amp as a combo. (Not bad for an entry level kit)

The red and red w/black wires in the dash, am not sure what those are for. Would need a wiring schematic for this car to know for sure.

Capaictor as in Surge Cap? Useless expense as they do not work as advertised and more like automotive jewlery. The amp has some pretty stout Caps in the power supply inside the metal box already.

Did I cover everything?

i have my remote to amp wired with my power and ignition from the HU what will that do? could that be the reason why i get the loud snap when i the amp kicks on?
also it was mentions that i should hook the ground to the car and not to the provided ground from the origional wire harness?

Yes, the amp is fully powered up before getting a signal, so it amplifies the turn on noise from the HU. If your HU does not have a REMote trigger line, you can install an inline switch in the dash to manually turn on the amp after the HU boots up.

Also, you may need to adjust the gain setting on the amp by up to 1/2 volts above present settings. That should help and your humm issues may be less noticable until you rewire things.

Grounding Aftermarket HU's is recommended as they often have stronger amplifiers than a stock factory amp. The separate ground often helps with noise issues too.
