I would like help on choosing the right amplifier and speakers.. I will be purchaing some orion hcca 10.2 or orion hcca 10.4 subwoofers and was wondering which amp is compatible with these subwoofers I have my eyes on the orion 5000 watts amp. what is your opinion?? Replies (7) swez on 01/28/2009 02:02:09 We have one active post here now that just fried his HCCA 12.2 on that same amp in one day. DEI has an as is warranty on these subs and if you fry one, $100.00 for a recone kit. http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/?g6204_330 That amp is very strong at 1-2 ohms and few subs I can think of, will take that kind of power until you get into 15-18" and a 4" voice coil. Comments? Swez 4000 on 01/28/2009 22:20:44 thanks for the reply !!! so what amp would you recommend for these subs?? thank you swez on 01/29/2009 00:30:27 If you used 2 subs, buy a pair of HCCA 10.4's and the HCCA-5000. Just remember these is a Compitition Class rig. Feeding an amp of this power range, often requires a H.O. ALT and wiring upgrades under the hood plus a strong battery too. (That depends on how hard you push it and what your stock electricals can deliver) My only concern is not using a single sub for this amp unless you go for a HCCA 15.2. That sub can handle the extra power, but a single 10 or 12 cannot. Orion is a well known brand to the Compitition Class user. They are build very rugged, but are not bullet proof. The install/setup process is key. Swez 4000 on 01/29/2009 02:04:19 yes I was intending on purchaing a pair of those speakers and I will upgrade my alternator and electrical system in my 1991 cadillac brougham since I am new to the audio world what would be a good alternator for my system ? swez on 01/29/2009 07:10:02 This is probably the 305 or 350 V-8 engine for this big ol land tank. (Delco CS130 ALT) Have a look at this link and give them a call or shoot them an e-mail to see what they have in a 200 + ampere H.O. ALT. It would be even better if you can get a modified version that delivers up to 275-300 amperes at under 2,000 RPM. http://www.db-starter-alternator.com/Items/7861-11%20-%20200%20amp%20-%20buick?&caSKU=7861-11%20-%20200%20amp%20-%20buick&caTitle=ROADMASTER%20FLEETWOOD%20HIGH%20OUTPUT%20ALTERNATOR%2090%2091%2092%2093%20%20%207861-11 OR http://www.highoutputalternator.com/ Swez 4000 on 02/2/2009 03:23:08 thanks again swez!! and I am guessing the box for these subwoofers will be a sealed box? swez on 02/2/2009 10:37:58 You can go either way with these subs. The specs for each type are noted in their manual on pages 18-19. http://www.directeddealers.com/manuals/og/orion/27307_Orion_HCCA_12.2_Owners_Manual.pdf It's recommended that the builder uses 1" thick MDF for sides, top & bottom and a 1.5" front baffle panel. Either version is very compact. Sealed: 1.5 ft^3/chamber (External) Ported: 1.6 ft^3/chamber (External) You can adjust the H, W or D to fit, but what matters most to the subs, the internal air space they work in counts for optimal performance. (a +/-5% deviation/chamber is acceptable) Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
