Sealed or Ported

I am currently running a combo of two 12" MTX Terminators in a Sealed enclosure.. It sounds awesome but i am wondering if it would sound better Ported. i am running it in the trunk of my 96 civic, but i usually have th eback seats fliped down anyways.. also does it really make a big difference if the subs are pointing towards the opening of the trunk or towards the back seat?

The Terminator series seems to be a sealed system only and power amp to go with them if you choose that package. This one?

This is a decent entry level kit from MTX. The subs are rated at 200 watts RMS per each and the matching amp delivers 100 watts per sub. If you wanted a few more dB of bass, a stronger amp that can deliver 400-500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, would help. (About +6dB more bass)

Sealed sub designs are great for clarity of bass and good overall performance. Ported designs are better to deep bass guys like from Rap and Hip-Hop.

The subs need to be designed for ported boxes and follow the recommended sub makers design perameters for best results.

As for orientation of your box in this car, try moving the box around and see which location sounds best. In most cases, firing the subs to the rear bumper works best.

I have read technical notes from guys who have tried other locations and found better results. It all depends on the acoustic properties of the vehicle. Feel free to experiment if you like. Just know the bass will be stronger in the cabin with at least one rear seat in the down position.

Thank You, that helps me with a few choices i was about to make, and trying to port the box myself would have been the wrong choice!! I feel they work really well rite now so i will stick with them in a sealed box.
As a combo purchased I know the subs can handle more more than what the amp can push, i dont like to run anything wide open i have most of my settings lowerd as much as i can, but my fan is an active cooling..
Q- is it better to run it opend up a little more or does it make a difference?
ThankYou
Josh...

oh yea... with able to run more little more power would it be to strong to put another identical amp on and run each sub to its own power supply?

With the setup you have now Josh, the next step would be pulling that MTX amp out and stepping up to a stronger Class D amp. (400-500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms)

With this vehicle, you can only go so far before adding electrical upgrades to support a larger and stronger system:

1. Big 3 Wiring upgrade

2. A larger CCA rated battery (750 CCA or larger)

3. A H.O. Alternator (200 amperes VS stock... 80A's?)

None of these are cheap. (Save for the Big 3 wiring upgrade) The other 2 items will set you back some $500.00 plus the cost of a larger amp. You have to weigh it all out and see if this is worth all that or not.

The next level of bass is not cheap. If you have a #4 gage power line and ground kit installed now, your limit is about 500 watts RMS before mentioned upgrades are needed. Are a few dB of extra bass worth the cost and effort? Only you and your wallet can decide.
