what is the parking brake switch Replies (2) wjohnson106 on 01/17/2009 19:10:52 ok swez on 01/17/2009 22:40:34 The parking brake switch is generally located near the parking brake assy. It's a simple on/off switch with 1-2 wires and a mechanical body ground. When the parking brake is enabled, it sends an electric signal that lights up a dash lamp. ("I'm activated now") The parking brake is active. When we release the parking brake, the circuit opens and the dash lamp goes out. This is a safety feature that prevents DVD players and other devices from operating when the vehicle is in motion. In the case of a GPS type HU display systems, we want the GPS to activate as soon as the parking brake is switched off. FYI: After using a few Garmin GPS portable systems for work, it's pretty much set and forget. Just remove them from the car when not in use as they are easy to steal and you are left with a broken window and no GPS. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
