Some are an easy fix, while others are a nightmare to track down. In most cases, the Aftermarket HU needs a non-factory harness ground. Here, it's best to go right to "bare metal" grounding points in the firewall or floor pan. That will remediate most "ground loop issues". FYI: We have seen reports that some Pioneer HU's need extra care in grounding the RCA ouputs as well. This is generally fixed by wrapping bare wire around the RCA grounding claw and tying this wire to the HU chassis screws. That seems to work in most cases. Hey guys, jump in as needed to help this guy get back on track. Swez Ash on 01/12/2009 20:01:47 Agreed on the Pioneer RCA problem... I love Pioneer HU's for the clarity and simplicity. All my personal installs include one, but depending on the amount and quality of components fed by the RCA's, I almost always have to ground the claw back to a chassis screw. This is especially true if there is an outboard x-over or EQ in the signal chain. Try that first and instead of pulling hair, you just might knock yourself out over how simple it was. Don't feel bad though, I've done it too... GRIN Ash, ttocs on 01/12/2009 20:05:47 what kind of car? I would also recomend checking the decks ground and probably moving it to a more secure location. swez on 01/14/2009 22:25:11 Any progress to report on the noise issues noted earlier? Swez MrBrownstone on 01/15/2009 07:51:04 If it's not the amp I'll be a monkey's uncle. If turning the amplifier gain control down to the minimum setting doesn't alleviate the problem, report back to us. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
