hello I have (4) P2D48 8" subwoofers that I am interested in building an enclosure for. I have extensive old school design of enclosures that include 4th,5th, and 6th order enclosures. I want to build somthing new and exciting. Any ideas? I will install the enclosure in my Gmc Envoy, so size is a big deal. I have thought of building the slot vent enclosure recommended by manf. it seems boring to me. Thanks and the website is awesome! I am just running them in a sealed enclosure myself but I love to suprise people when they think they are bigger. How much power are you going to throw at them? Ash on 01/4/2009 09:10:02 Welcome to CK! Four 8's are a good choice when opting for multiple subs. With the specs of those I say it would be hard to beat going ported which will net a F3hz in the 30's. Ideal for an suv if you got enough room for the 2.6 ft^3 box. If not then stick with the manufacturer recommended sealed which is in the micro box range. I don't know of any design that will gain better than the ported with those subs. Also consider that their xmax is a bit limited (8mm) even though 4 of them will pump some air. A ported box will help greatly in that area as you use a SSF. I'd give a full 800 rms @ 2 ohms which should be easy to find an amp in range. Most of the times simplest is best. For this you could stack up 2 Wicked ones ... http://www.decware.com/whorn.htm http://www.decware.com/whornok.htm complex... but I can surely assure you it works cause I have built one.. and am building another, this time with FRP ... Victor... eta1091 on 01/5/2009 15:37:05 The spl horn 4th order looks to be the enclosure i want to build. Thank you for the responses. Victor, can you help in dimensions? the size isnt restricted for my application. IThanks again Victor on 01/5/2009 22:23:13 it is a pretty simple geometric layout for a horn...and this one is pretty effective too... you can do this enclosure 1 - 36" x 24" x ( variable height/depth ) 2 - 36" x 36" x ( variable height/depth ) 6" , 8", 10" do very good in these enclosures, with 12 & 15's the enclosure becomes too huge to fit in a car. since you have 8" drivers ... the 36" x 24" x 20" ( for 2 x 8" subs on each side ) meaning all the 4 subs will go in a single enclosure ... now that becomes a huge box by the way ... 10 cu.ft here is one mad guy who did an enclosure for 8 x 10" subs in that design.. you will get an idea of what i meant to say by 36 x 24 x 20 .. http://www.decware.com/cgi-bin/yabb22/YaBB.pl?num=1200843494 hope this helps.... Victor... eta1091 on 01/6/2009 00:47:02 Victor Thanks for the input. that box looks insane. how did it turn out? How wide do i make the ports? or am i missing somthing? thanks again. Victor on 01/6/2009 00:55:52 wide .. ports... ???? this is a self adjusting design.. the horn is actually a port ... you don't need any other ports for this enclosure design... and if done right.. this enclosure makes even the simplest sub sound extra ordinary ... Victor... PS: Did you go through the links above and see the design and construction process of this enclosure... ??? Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
