It's almost Christmas... remember when?

My dear friends at CK,

It's December 23rd and just a few days before Christmas. For some, that means packing up their car for a long trip to be with distant family members. For others, they will be hosting a family gathering. For some, it will be a short trip to be with friends and family. Some will be alone and have no close friends or family to spend time with. These unfortunate souls will be lonely and alone.

For those of you who have family and celebrate this season as kin, consider adding an outsider to your family gathering. They may be struggling this year having lost a job, a mate or a dear parent. There are many single parents with children that would love to be part of a gathering/celebration this year.

For those who have the time and inclination, sign up to serve others at a local soup kitchen or bring them some gifts, clothing and food they desparately need right now. Getting a few nice gifts are great and we do enjoy that. But giving to others is even better. That's what Christmas really means... helping the needy.

Also, think back to the days when we were kids, young and full of anticipation about what we might find under the tree with our name on the tag. Some families light candles and sing songs as part of their traditions, around the tree. They'd go to bed early and wake up early for family time to open gifts, laughter and then a big feast, later in the day. This was all part of our Christmas traditions and such. Some never had such traditions and missed out.

However, if this was not your reality as a child, as adults, we can still experience the joy by starting our own traditions this year. Yes, it's tough for many this year. Some have scaled way back due to job losses and an uncertain future. But we can still enjoy the simple things in life too.

It's not about what's in/not in our wallets or under the tree this year that matters most. It's that we band together and enjoy the company of family or friends and share what we have with others less fortunate.

From my house to your house.... "Have a Merry Christmas and a fresh start in the New Year!

Merry Christmas to all, SMILE
