I need to wait for my room mate to come home to help me load the sub in the box, and then load the consol into the truck but it is done as it sits. I have some small sanding and painting on the stock panels up front where I got some resin on them but I will be cutting one of the pieces up to mount the bass cube controls as well as the fused distrobution block so I am not worried about them at the moment. I am not really happy with the black material I picked for the top but I had to choosen function over form. I use the truck for a daily driver and like to take my dog with me when I can so between her using as a perch to see out and my dirty elbos suede just would not have been a good idea. As I was polishing the grill I realized that it will not be long before it gets chipped, scratched or something else that will make it not new. In this case however function followed form as I wanted to make the gril something to look at. When it is installed in the truck it will not be easy to be seen and even harder to touck so I thought I would make it a cool piece that when I took it off people would want to touch it. I will regret that later I know......

There are a number of spray on paints that are acrylic or epoxy based and very durable. If your present grill gets a bit narley over time, consider that or a grill cloth cover to match the rest of your interior.

As for the pooch perch, it may not like the vibrations and sit quietly on the passenger side seat. When I take my pooch for a ride, (often) I tie a leash to the passenger door handle and just enought length for her to navigate to a comfortable spot. If I don't, she leaps over the center console, sits in my seat and has to be moved to her spot when I return.

Yea, it's cute that she likes my seat and such, but once the leash is on and boundaries are fixed, she's happy as a clam to be along for the ride.

We either train them or they make their own rules. Alpha dogs set the rules. The others abide or get a rebuke as part of the training process. An obedient poochie is a good pooch!

PS Nice work so far! HAPPY

I am hoping that this will be solid enough that it will not vibrate very much, but I never turn it up with her in the car either way. She is normally happy just to sit in the passenger seat but at stop lights and when I slow down she likes to take a look around.

I am not that worried about the grill as I put 4 good coats on it. Any minor scratches or knicks can be covered with a sharpie. My mom likes to sew and I thought about asking her if she could come up with some kind of removable cover.

OHH, I need your opinions. I had been plannin on cutting a diamond audio quarter moon logo into the perferated metal of the grill. I think it will make for a cool effect with the led lighting the sub to shine through the logo I cut but now that it is to this point I am hesitant. It looks good as it is right now, and while I am sure I could make a clean cut and make it look good the thought about possibly screwing it up are making me second guess myself....

Consider badging it with a stick on logo?

If you cut the grill, it may rattle and drive ya nuts and you'll have to fab another. The add on logo should be fine and hassle free.

Nice work so far Scott,

PS When the nights are pleasant, I take poochie to a local school yard where she can run free and stretch her legs w/o a leash. The trick is to go to unfamiliar turf for the dog. She goes only so far, but returns when called. I carry a small beam light too. That is her que to follow the light back to the master.

Dogs love to run and sniff about. But they also want the security of knowing where their master is. I've tried hiding behind a tree or bush as an experiement. She gets frantic and backtracks for a fresh scent. I just turn on the light, and she comes right back to the source and happy as a clam. "Oh... I found you again! I am so happy now, let's go home". Yep, dogs live totally in the moment. It's our job to train them well. Now wonder they call a good dog... "Man's best friend".

I am not worried about rattling as I am not going to cut the metal so it is completely seperate into two pieces. I was just plannin a small 5-6" logo in the middle

Swez you have noting to worry about with my dog not being spoiled as I normally do not know where her leash is... She is the smartest dog I have ever seen and listens very well. I have her trained so that all I need to do to get her attention is to snap my fingers a few times and she will heel, if I need to get control of her I just pick her up. I do not get my bike out to the trails anymore so I have been using it to let her run with me for short distances. On top of this as I said I enjoy taking her with me when I can. The lady's at ace and autozone are mad at me when I don't bring her(total chic magnet). She is also my RC airplanes club mascot as she loves to visit with the people and figure out to stay off the runway, she has also licked a few tears when someone favorite airplane crashed.

Smart dogs survive... dumb ones don't. (They become road pizza)

Do you have a scrap peice of that grill cover left over? If yes, try you logo idea on that and see how well it turns out.

This stuff looks like grating material some put on glass doors or chimney tops to keep birds out of the house. What do you think the gage/thickness is on this stuff? Am wondering if a demmel disc cutting wheel would handle the job and be very accurate too?

Whatcha think?

I have no idea about metal gauges to even hazard a guess on it. It is a perferated metal that is required some time to cut with a cutting wheel and took some effort to bend into shape.

it in....... I had to wait till this evening to for my roomie to come home and help me load it so I finished a few minor details today. I ran the wire for the sub through the box, vacuumed all the sawdust out of the box and then stuffed it with poly fill since it is a little smaller then I would like. I also pulled the seat out of my truck as I knew it would be a big pia to try and rangle the consol with the sub into place and I was right. The sub fit nice and tight and I was happy that the threaded inserts were mounted accuratly enough that it went in fairly easy. My only concern after that was if the grill would fit correctly as it was a tight fit around the woofer but it went on nicely. With the sub in the box it was almost 2x as heavy and all the weight was on the end. The grill because of its tight fit does not slide on and off as easily as I would like but it still does what a grill is supposed to.

Coda and I are off to fly our rc planes tomorrow morning and I will get some pics when the sun is up. Now I just can't wait to hear it.......
