Let us know how it went! -Garrett ttocs on 12/14/2008 23:58:46 mead designs? didn't know you were with him... Your system performs but your wiring makes the installer in me shudder. Man you glanced over your batteries and alternators pretty fast but I didn't see a single fuse in all the power wires? you know the rules, all power wires must be fused with in 12 inches of the battery, doesn't matter if it is a 1rst or 2nd battery.... My other advise is that walmart sells some nice scosche battery terminals now for only $8 each, I have them on both of my cars now. newB on 12/15/2008 05:03:28 the battery terminals are amazing!! i wouldn't trade them for anything. With the marine terminals you can use the single mounting stud to post lots of wire very easily, defiantly worth its weight in gold for convenience and practicality. Its not uncommon for high power setups to run no fuses- although i have not quite reached that point the main power wire is very short, very visible and not touching anything hazardous. Keep in mind that the fuse does not protect equipment but instead protects the wire itself from grounding out from a pinch. the only way i can see any of my engine bay wires grounding would be because of a collision, in which case the battery would be destroyed and not very efficient at putting out power GRIN now- no excuses i know i actually have fuses on order,(Best Buy and Circuit City don't carry 300A fuses) I'm just explaining why i set it up the way i did without haste for the fuses. btw, just redid both alts positive and grounds in rockford 0ga and after the bass race today these are my numbers: 145.0 windows up 145.8 windows down 146.6 drivers down All on music (jeezy, ~40hz) and a short vid of me beating Bill "KingSUV" in a 139.9 bass race. http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/hh135/alpine408/?action=view¤t=MVI_0036.flv -Drew **I am an active member on stevemeadedesigns.com --> Forum and use the site to communicate with the other NorCal db drag / bass race competitors so i have the sticker on the corner- along with a few DC Audio stickers. ttocs on 12/15/2008 10:33:15 the idea of not running fuses in competition DB cars was brought up on an industry forum that I am a part of. Out of a large list of installers that include some of the top in the industry that have done literally thousands of systems there were only 2 examples of cars that we had built that did not use fuses. These were both competition only, trailered vehicles that had the large gauge power wires hooked up shortly before taking a run, and disconnected afterwards. So yes you are right that it is done, but only under very controlled situations. So imagine you do have a front end collision hard enough to smash the front battery and ground out the wires? What happens to the rear battery when the 0 awg starts to weld itself to your chassis? Your right that the fuse is to protect the wire, but if it isn't there you will set everything touching that wire from the short to the battery(is that behind your seat, unmounted?) and this is BEFORE The wire catches fire. You have done sooo much on this install correctly why fall short on the basics? do it right, do it once. cplkittle on 12/15/2008 12:57:39 ditto ebay items: 140246466865 0ga fuse holder with 300A ANL fuse ($14.99 shipped) 270257756996 300A 12v / high current / push to reset / circuit breaker (9.98 shipped) Never need to buy a fuse again!
