I am replacing the old cassette tape-only factory stereo with another Honda factory stereo which has a CD - nothing fancy, but will work for now. Since the stereo I am installing was from the same year/model of Honda, I shouldn't need a new install kit or new harness, correct? Replies (7) swez on 11/19/2008 13:52:16 Probably not, if the wiring harnesses match up. If you are bare bones now, try it and see if the desired results are satisfactory. If not, a better approach is an Aftermarket HU with the features you desire and prices will be at "rock-bottom" for that upgrade after the holiday shopping season. Aftermarket gear has so much more to offer in this vintage year car. OK, so you'll have to buy a conversion harness and probably upgrade to better speakers later. Just take things in stide and do what you can, as the wallet permits! Swez ttocs on 11/19/2008 15:17:30 the mounting should be the same pain in the A screw at the back of the radio, wiring may or may not match up. Does your current car have factory keyless entry? Does the radio you are replacing it with have a large square area on the top of the radio that is open, or is it filled? SQLThump on 11/19/2008 16:40:39 It could work, but factory stereos are not as swappable as you might think......and if I had a dollar for every dude who gets pissed at me because he can't put his Dodge Neon's factory radio in his ratted out old Toyota work truck....... mbroke on 11/20/2008 10:57:44 . mbroke on 11/20/2008 11:00:45 Okay, this is what I bought (below). Mine is the exact same thing except the where the CD is on the new one is a "pocket" in the old one. You know, the type you can slide a small notebook into or whatever. This is why I wondered if I would need any kind of facing kit. ![]() ![]() mbroke on 11/20/2008 11:06:10 Oh, and no keyless entry or anything like that, although that would be a nice addition, along with an auto starter! SQLThump on 11/20/2008 12:22:45 It should work, and fit in the factory dash face as well. There is only really one way to find out, hook it up and see if it works. Hopefully neither of the stereos have a anti-theft protection code, that could be a major pain. Check it out and let us know..... Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
