It's kinda neat to see this project take shape and we know you won't give up until the results are well above average. Keep us posted as you can, Swez PS Send some of that nice weather up north eh? It been chilly, dry and too soon for winter. If we get above 35 during the day and minimal wind, it's a good day... hehe ttocs on 11/19/2008 15:19:03 sitting next to an open window right now....... I will have to put it on hold until the end of this next weekend as I have a friend that I have not seen in a while comming in. I need to straighten out the house a bit. SQLThump on 11/19/2008 16:39:49 Send us some snow.....without Colorado'straditional "White Holloween". we are either A, going to get smashed by a brutal blizzard, or B, have a record lack of snowfall which will result in a dry, boring forest firey summer......We can't afford any ore dry weather....this coming from the world's biggest winter hater. Keep up the wicked work Ttocs, maybe I might have to build something for my exploder fro the hel of it. ttocs on 11/20/2008 05:14:33 the consol was originally out of an explorer. SQLThump on 11/20/2008 12:24:14 Yeah, I remember you saying that, hence it's inspirational value to me. The Exploder's consloe is definitly more capacious that that of a Ranger, noticed that when I looked at my parent's Ranger after driving the Exploder for a few.... ttocs on 11/20/2008 12:54:19 I am happy to say that it looks like its gonna work. I had not used foam like this before nor covered such a large plastic area so I was not sure that it was going to work. After letting it cure all night and today it held its shape almost perfectly. There are only a couple of low spots that I have to fill but when I finish it you should not be able to tell from the side that it holds a sub. Its length has grown a bit but you can't make an omlet....... It is going to kill me that I can't work on it most of the weekend now.... I spent all day straightening up the house for my buddy and his new wife(never met her) who arrive in the morning. They are in town for a friend of hers that is getting married and leave again on sunday. swez on 11/23/2008 05:08:18 Ahhh, short and sweet are visits from friends and relative alike. Like the old saying... "Visitors are like fish! After about 3 days, they get pretty ripe"! LOL (Even the ones we like the most) Sounds like your new console modification is coming along nicely. When you have time, take some pics so we can see the progression OK? CLAP Swez ttocs on 11/24/2008 12:44:16 Wow the weekend went fast.......... They took off this morning and I was again able to get some more work done. I have glassed both sides of the consol and now sanded them both down in preperation for bondo to smooth it out. I also glassed the cover that will go over the rear portion of the consol above the box. I will let it cure over night and start filling it as well. Gonna be alot of sanding on all the pieces. Now I am just torn between how to finish it. I didn't think I would be able to get vinyl to work but now that I see the finished shape I think I could make it work. If I cover the bottom portion with the viny and leave the top pieces that snap in flat black it will look stock but be a little more work. I am afraid after I am done sanding that I will be happy to just paint it all flat black and be done with it... I also got the gear in today and this sub us much heavier then I remember them being. I am afraid to know what the shipping would have been for it and the 5.25 componants but now that I have the gear I am even more happy with the deal. ttocs on 12/1/2008 17:03:48 I was able to get alot of the fine little details done over the weekend. I finished the rear portion of the arm rest and now have it mounted to a piece of wood that finishes the curve and will then start the grill. I am happy so far that I was able to keep all the curves that I wanted so that it will not look like something that was lust plopped in. Today I was happy to find out that lowes has started to stock plexi in 1/4" thickness. I am going to mount the sub through the plexi(so the sub will be on top of it) and then edge light it with blue leds. The plexi will give me a place to end the vinyl, and will also be the point between the enclosure and the removable grill. The edge of it will glow blue between the two and should add a little flair to the install. Tomorrow I am starting on the grill and not really looking forward to it. Now I have to try and copy the curves from the factory pieces that I liked on the wood that will make up the grill which will mean alot more sanding. I would take more pics but unfortunatly it does not look a whole lot different. I smooted out the glass with some bondo so there are a couple of new colors but it still looks very rough at the moment. I think I can finish the grill in a few days and after that I can start to cover it and take a few more pics. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
