HU power is OK for most Comps... but a modest amp to front channels is even better (50-75 watts RMS x 2) VS 20 watts from most HU's. As for rear channel... depends on what you like best. I have heard some very good 3-4 way speakers in the rear deck as I like mids and highs in the rear too. Some prefer only rear fill or midbass only in the rear. It all depends on your taste. As for rear deck VS rear door installs... space for the driver in the rear deck is usually more liberal. Door speakers may have to be slim line designed to avoid mechanicals and window assy. Most get more output from deck installs. When choosing your speakers, your ears are your best tools. Unfortunately, what you hear in the show room wall is not what you are likely to hear in your car. This is where some EQ will really help round out the sound. A 5 bander is OK... but some really like a few more bands. I am one that prefers 7-9 bands of control for the front and rear sound stages. But learning how to use it well... takes time and a good ear. Example: If you have Windows Media Player, try the EQ features in that player. What a difference huh? Use the boost features sparingly and cut the mids a tad if too nasal (~1000 Hz). The more you fiddle with it, the more you will appreciate what good EQ control can do.... especially if you use good headphones or better desk top speakers and a sub. I bought and like a lot... these: VS1469C 4 WAY 6"X9" 300 WATTS 150 WATT RMS CHROME BASKET AND CONE BUTYL RUBBER SURROUND 1" NEODYMIUM TWEETER 2.5" MIDRANGE 30 OZ MAGNET 45HZ-20KHZ SENSITIVITY 91 dB http://www.justcarspeakers.com/ I had stock GM midbass before, and installed these after listening to a pair of (OK) Alpine 3-ways I had on hand. These Am. Pros have nice bass response and good mids and highs too.... with a little extra power, they sound even better. I was very pleasantly surprised with the sound and clarity of such an inexpensive 6x9. They are pretty hefty and deep with larger magnet housing... but I had no trouble installing in rear deck. One of the main reasons these Pros sound good, is a 5 band EQ in the HU as well. That makes all the difference. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
