A Couple Questions About the Alpine Type-R

Hi, I have a few questions about a future system that I am planning to get.

1.) I have a system already (link below) and I would like to use the same box and just swap out the current speakers with Alpine Type-Rs. My question is will the Type-Rs work well in this box because it is a fairly small box. It is ported but I have no idea what the port frequency is.

2.) I am running the amp that came in the package deal which is the Ultra Linear UL801 (800 watt RMS @ 2ohms)
and was wondering if I could use this amp to power 2 2ohm Type-Rs or would I have to get a better amp. If I have to upgrade the amp, I plan on using is a BOSS Audio GT2500D (rated at 1500 watt RMS @ 2ohms, 2500 watt max @ 2ohms).

3.) If I have to upgrade the amp would it be better or cheaper to switch to a single sub setup and use the amp I have now.

Sorry for all these questions, I am somewhat new to the car audio scene and just don't like to waste money by buying expensive equipment and them having to sell it.

Alpine's SWR series is a solid choice sub for sealed and ported apps, depending on the space and power you desire. They can handle 500 watts RMS (Thermallly) per sub, if the box is not too large.

Here, you'll want a pair of SWR-1022D's. These will be wired in Series/Parallel for a net 2 ohm load. (Just right for the amp mentioned) In this scenario, a 0.75 cf per chamber sub enclosure, (sealed) would be optimal.

If you go ported, it depends on the enclosure size, port tuning frequency and how much space you can eek out.

PS The SWR series is a solid SQL woofer series to use for a wide range of apps.

very versatile woofer.

i say go biggest box possible with lossa power GRIN

I've seen a 12 type R on 1,000wrms in 2.7cuft @32hz and it performed great. big box tuned low will have good results but to answer your question-yes should do fine.

An alpine type R 12" ... in a 2.7cuft ported enclosure.... tuned @ 32 Hz ... powered by 1000wrms... PROUD

IDEA ask that guy to play a 35Hz test tone at full power for 30 seconds.....

GRIN

honestly i didn't believe it myself!!!!

it was actually a hifonics bxi1606 (1600wrms@1ohm) but it is over-rated so i'm assuming its a few hundred lower. woofer played daily at good volume for about 6 months before collapsing under the power.

(unless Alpine shipped him a D4 instead of a D2 OR he told me it was D2 and was actually D4)

Thanks for all the replys! I just didn't know if the planned setup would be alright or if I would need to upgrade more than just the subs and amp.
