I have a kicker L7 in a 6 cu. ft. sealed box. I think it sounds awesome. Is it gonna hurt my speaker being that big? Replies (6) kirchatndftbl on 10/29/2008 14:40:19 6 cu. ft. is the biggest box recommended by kicker for the L7 when its sealed. kicker reccomends 1.5 to 6 cu. ft sealed or 3.0 to 6 cu ft ported raiders98 on 10/29/2008 14:42:58 Alright. i had first designed the box to be ported, but it sounded so good we decided to keep it. Do I lose any power handling? kirchatndftbl on 10/30/2008 09:19:03 not sure swez on 10/30/2008 12:31:31 The sealed box may sound just fine in you truck. That is up to you. But, if you want a few dB more of low bass, porting is the answer. (Roughly +3dB near the porting frequency) The only drawback, you'll need a Subsonic Filter in the chain to protect your sub. Swez PS Sealed systems offter the most accurate and linear bass performance. If you stay with the larger sealed box, it may get a bit boomy and lower the power handling numbers of the L7. (Your ears will tell you if you have gone too far. (Cone whop) raiders98 on 10/30/2008 13:45:01 I might port it, and I have a subsonic filter on my amp Im pretty sure. by lower power handling does that mean its easier to blow the sub? swez on 11/1/2008 03:27:20 Most subs will take more power than rated just fine if the cone is moving in and out like an air piston. The piston action helps airflow to the coil(s) to keep them cool. Test tones are hard on a sub for extended time periods at high power as the cone does not move in/out enough to cool the coil. (Too much heat in the coil, fries the coil and ruins the sub) Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
