i had a problem earlier. my mirror vibrated off and the metal slug that holds it on came off too. so i went and bought a kit and cleaned everything and glued it back on. let it set for about 4 or 5 hours before i put the mirror back on. well after listening to music for a while it happened again but a piece of my windshield came off with the metal thing. should i put some clear caulk or something in the spot. or just leave it alone. it produced a crack about 3 inches long, hope the whole windshied dont break lol

if you have a crack, it will get bigger and bigger, especially with the summer comming up. I had a rock hit my windshield about a year ago on the pass side. It has slowly over the last few months developed into a crack that has now gone completly to the drivers side..... Just get it replace and you will not have to worry about glue...

Yep, replace the windshield ASAP. These kinds of cracks migrate very quickly and if you have a lot of bass SPL, that will only speed up the process.

If you have Comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, it may not cost you anything to replace it. If out of pocket expense, shop around for the best deal. Some services will actually come right to your home or work and replace the window right on site. No downtime on your part.

I had a guy come to my office and replace the windshield right there in the driveway. Took him 1.5 hrs and he even cleaned up the whole mess, inside and out, before he left me the bill. My insurance carrier cover the whole cost. Beautiful job too and it never leaked!

alright guys, thanx alot. i think theres a guy that my dad is good friends with that will find a new windshield or atleast one that is in great shape and do all the process of takin the one out and puttin the new one in for 150 dollars. i suppose it will be more if he has to get a brand new one tho. all the clean up and stuff i can do that, if it will save money. thanx again.

hmmmm.... maybe this can wait until he can save up.....if money is an issue....i think it can wait....it wont spread that much if its on the inside of the windshield....(what makes it spread it the wind getting into the crack and it makes it snake out) but yea deffientley gonna need to be replaced sooner or later....but not immedatley

too bad its not on the outside of the windshield [rock, mailboxes.. what have you] .. you call up your insurance company and tell them you were on the highway and something flew out of some guys truck and hit your windshield... new windshield = free of charge ;) .. how dishonest is that... ehh f*** it.. its insurance.

what are you talking about... It is a sheet of glass.. there is no crack on oneside or crack on the other, it is cracked..

The idea that the wind causes it? the class is coated with a thin piece of plastic that keeps it from shattering when broken. There is no wind. What you might be thinking about is the pressure that the wind creates. The pressure could also be caused by the subs if it is loud enough. It is generally not enough to start the crack, but once the crack is there it speads easily. Changes in temp will also cause the glass to expand and contract to help it along.

Yes, Temperature is a huge factor, u might have a tiny crack, down by the defroster, and by the time u get back in the car and turn on the defroster or the heater, and bam, it gets bigger, i just replaced the windshield on my 97 cavalier, blah, i've been havin some horrible car troubles lately, it sucks.
