Ok so i have two alpine type r subs rated at 4 ohms and i have two kenwood 2 channel amps model KAC-7204. (specs) CEA Rated: 170W X 2 (1.0% THD+N) (4Ohm/2Ch) OR 250 Watts x 2 (2 ohm)/500 Watts x 1 (4 Ohm Bridged) I wanted one amp per sub . my plan was to bridge amp and give them there rms rate of 500 watts at 4 ohms ( shows what i know) so my question is how should i hook this up or can i at all? Replies (7) SQLThump on 10/7/2008 11:22:47 Give us the model number of yoy Type R's. All type Rs are dual voice coil, and this may work great or horribly depending on whether they are dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm units sprink84 on 10/7/2008 11:29:53 they are type srw-1242d SQLThump on 10/7/2008 12:12:41 That sucks man. Those subs can net only a two or eight ohm load, which will not net full power from the amp (at 8 ohms) or slowly melt down the amp (two ohms). If you bought the subs new, you may be able to swap them out for a set of the two ohm models, and if you can, we would be happy to walk you through the install Also if you get something that will push 1000 watts RMS at one or 4 ohms, you can make things simple and run a single amp for both subs. Try selling your Kenwoods. Generally, as a rule of thum in car audio, simple=easy=good. If you can avoid running more than one amp for your subs, do. If you can avoif more than two amps for both highs and mids and subs....even better sprink84 on 10/7/2008 12:53:42 thats ok i can take back the amps just got them last friday . i know kenwood kinda stinks but they were on sale . what amp would you recommend for the type r's thats not gonna break the bank wanna spend around $300 there is just so many to choose from that i dont wanna get stuck with some overrated piece of junk. thanks for all the help!! ttocs on 10/7/2008 16:36:06 you could always hook up one channel of the amp to one voice coil, and the other channel to the other coil and still do one amp per speaker. Bass is normally recorded in mono so it should not hurt anything other then you are only pushing 170 watts to each coil, 340 per speaker is not too bad. T-RAY on 10/8/2008 14:44:38 See you have alpine subs... excellent selection! Ttocs has a good idea, but you could go with a single, big mono amp as SQL mentioned. I checked out some alpine amplifiers but found nothing that fits your budget range for this criteria. You could try this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9551_Hifonics+TXi+1008D.html If thats not really your taste, and you wanted two seperate amplifiers, you could spring for an extra $100 and go with two alpine amps! http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12018_Alpine+MRP-M500.html Victor on 10/8/2008 21:12:45 the hifonics T-ray mentioned would be a solid choice...
