I'm new to this audio stuff, but I'm trying to learn all the info I can as I just got some speakers I'm going to be putting in my boat. I know this is geared towards cars, but you all know what you're talking about, and I figure that same rules apply. They are two kicker speakers at 150 watts peak and 75 watts rms. My friend has an amp available to me for the best price possible (free) and I'm wondering if I can make it work. The amp is a fosgate 2-channel 900 watt max power amp. It's listed at 150 Watts RMS x 2channels at 2 ohms and 75watts RMS x 2channels at 4 ohms. Sorry for the long winded question. Any help is appreciated. Replies (4) compvr15s on 09/9/2003 23:58:19 yea you can make this work, you will just have to set the gains accordingly, what is the ohm rating of the speakers, are they subs? as long as you get good ground and proper wiring this amp will work wonders for them 2 speakers. just remember to not go overboard or you will smoke your speakers. Jeremy2210 on 09/10/2003 00:24:28 I'm not sure what the ohm rating on the speakers are, I know the Frequency responce is 35-21k hz, impendence 4, and sensitivity 1q/1m 88db. If that tells you anything good, if not sorry. But, thanks for the help so far. compvr15s on 09/10/2003 12:37:40 the impedence is 4 ohms, thats the same as the ohms rating. everything should be fine, as long as you set the gains properly. as far as crossover settings, you will have to test that once you have the speakers running.. you should hear no distortion just crisp clear sound. good luck. if ya have any other questions just ask, im sure it will get answered. Swez on 09/10/2003 13:27:36 May have to consider power issues here as marine alternators are not very high output until you get into IO drives and V6/V8 car engines. Keep that in mind as you use your sub amp... may need to run it off a separate battery (Deep Cycle) to get the job done and not leave you out in the middle of a lake w/o power. Then recharge it at home off a 2-12A charger. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
