Howdy guys! I came across this sight tonight and found some really good info. I need a little help myslef. I'm looking to upgrade my factory speakers in my 2003 F-250. I have been doing a little research and "think" i have found the setup I am looking for. Since I am new to this I need your opinions on whether I am matching things up....like what amp with what sub and pricing! Here is the blueprint thus far: -MbQuart DKE 157 front and rear $140 --RF Punch 501X- 65Wx4 $205 -JLAudio stealthbox w/ 10" DVC 6ohm $500 --RF Power 351M- 350W@ 2ohm $142 I am wanting to keep my factory head unit since I have the in dash changer. The sub will run at 3 ohms since it's DVC so my major concern is that the sub amp might be a little weak? I know RF has a higher output so that's the reason I went with this amp thinking 3ohm@265W also to step up to the next RF amp is another $150. So right now I am looking at around $1000 before installation, which I might just do myself? Any help would greatly be appreciated...thanks!! The only item I would even mildly question is the JL sub.... not so much brand... I assume you like the console style mount here? It does offer the OEM look and does not take up a bunch of interior space either? The next aspect of the install will be installing LOC's (Line out Convertors) from the HU outputs to your amps so that RCA's will be possible. Get the type that have adjustable output pots for each channel set. You can tap off the rear RCA's w/ "Y" splitters to feed the sub amp as well. Any other thoughts out there gang? Swez ttocs on 09/9/2003 11:33:20 that truck should not be difficult to install the mentioned equipment. I can get you through it.. Tray on 09/9/2003 14:48:50 I would definately look elsewhere for a sub setup. If you're looking for something you don't have to make yourself, you can checkout. http://www.supercrewsound.com http://www.subbox.net/store/ http://www.proboxrocks.com The MBs are a good step up from stock, and if you can get 2 pair for $140, I'd say they are worth it. As for the component amp, I'd say you could find something that will work just as well, but be kinder to your wallet. Realistically for those speakers to sound good, all you need is around 35-40 watts RMS of clean power, and that way you won't be drowning out your subwoofer either. You may also want to look into PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation) for a line out converter which uses your factory wiring harness, and adds RCA connections. Easier than tapping into the signal to connect a LOC. http://www.pac-audio.com/index.asp Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
