Hello everyone I am new at this whole quality sound ordeal as I have always upgraded the head units and or speakers only cause the stock stuff was junk but I have never installed an amp before. I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 240.4 amp and I have a few questions: I only have 2 RCA jacks on my head unit but my amp has 4 2 for front and 2 for rear. I would like to clean up the sound on the speakers that I have and hook up all 4 channels but how do I do that with only 2 RCA jacks? I would like to thank you all in advance for your help. Replies (6) big_bass_chase on 09/26/2008 14:11:56 It's quite simple actually, all you would need to do is pick up some RCA splitters>> Turning one RCA into two - Victor on 09/26/2008 17:17:10 Hello, Welcome to CK ! as big_bass said.... you would need a Y split RCA .... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=263-360 check the link.... hope this helps.. Victor.. mean318 on 09/27/2008 01:16:42 Cool, Thanks! swez on 09/27/2008 04:23:22 You'll need 2 sets of Y-Splitters for this amp. It's rated at roughly 30 watts per channel and probably a tad more. (The older RF amps were rated very conseratively back then) Aftermarket speakers would be a solid plus and try to stick with high efficiency, 2 ohm speakers if you can. (2-way Comps in front and 2-way Coaxials in the back) If you like a tad more bass in the mix, consider a modest powered sub to fill in the lower octave. Comments? Swez mean318 on 09/27/2008 09:21:43 I have aftermarket speakers in there already, don't know how many ohms though, all are 2-way. JVC and I think Pioneer. I have to look to see what I have. I also have a sub that I will probably hook to a separate amp just for it. Would it be possible to put the rear speakers amp hookup to the sub and then the fronts to the rear speakers? swez on 09/27/2008 10:27:10 Most Aftermarket speakers are 4 ohm units. In the past 2-3 years, JBL and Infinity broke that rule and came out with 2 ohm Comps and Coaxials. There may be a few others doing the same trick to gain more power from amped systems, but I don't who they might be at this time. (The Bose Factory systems introduced this idea a few years ago and few others caught the wave) One option you could do, amp the front speakers and run the rear speakers off the HU's internal amps. This would allow you to bridge the rear amp channels to power a modest 4 ohm sub. Another plan would be to amp all 4 speakers as mentioned and run jumpers from the rear speakers to a sub amp that has signal level inputs. A 3rd and best option would be to add an EQ/Line driver between the HU outputs and amp inputs. There are several 1/2 Din devices that only need 1 pair of RCA inputs, but provide 3 pairs of RCA outs for Front, Rear and Sub amps. This is a nice add on if your present HU has limited EQ features and only 1 pair of RCA outs. Another bonus feature many EQ systems add, is an AUX input for I-Pods, MP3 players or Video systems that tap into audio amps further down the audio chain. Comments?
