Soooo my new amp came in!! This is what i got when i opened the box. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() anybody ele notice anything... weird... about this board? -Drew Replies (10) swez on 09/25/2008 10:44:19 Yeah! This is a real hack job and smells of rework done on this board, Some solder joints look horrible and the power jumpers look old and used as well. (Large metal jumpers) It looks like at least one power amp transistor is also missing on one rail and the rest of the board looks like it been around the block for a few years already. What brand/model is this amp anyway and how much did it cost? Swez newB on 09/25/2008 14:25:52 it was an ED.nine1 and i shipped it back for a full refund GRIN the history is that it was refurbed by ED then sent to my seller and he just slapped my address on it and shot it to me so once he saw the board he offered the refund. so it was Elemental Designs that did this hack repair job. -Drew Victor on 09/25/2008 16:49:26 ED did that sort of Refurb ?????? Yuck........! And that amp had definitely FRIED before it went to ED for repairs... MrBrownstone on 09/30/2008 05:56:31 Notice something weird? 10. It was dragged through volcanic ash on the way out of warranty 9. Had more fried crickets than an Alabama KFC 8. Where'd the magic smoke go 7. Used potting soil to clean up after doing repair work 6. Soldering iron operated by Edward Scissorhands 5. More meltdown than Wall Street 4. Preparation H for Torroids? 3. ED not just for Erectile Dysfunction anymore 2. Pyramid, Pyle, Planet Audio jealous of brilliant work done by ED 1. I knew those kids in 11th grade shop were up to something Victor on 09/30/2008 06:06:54 ok..... i remember someone saying that I was being naughty .... Ash on 09/30/2008 09:05:23 OMG!!! That has to be the worst looking repair that I have ever seen! Are you sure ED did that job or did someone "fake da funk", for it's hard to believe a reputable company (or least what I thought) would even have something to do with it. Still, you never know. Could have been someone that pissed them off and they called themselves returning the favor or might not have even been done by a real tech. The main thing is that you got your money back, because if not, that would have been the real disaster. newB on 09/30/2008 11:09:13 GRIN GRIN GRIN GRIN Mr.B i agree he bought 6 EDnine.1s from ED all "b stock" then slapped on new shipping tags and sent them all out to various buyers and thats what mine looked like. ACTUALLY, the shipping tag on the inner box was ED to my seller. and he has many refs on various forums with countless good deals. -rew swez on 09/30/2008 11:56:25 Well done Mr. B. (You have a knack for the whacky and timely comments) Oh, it's common to use hot glue or similar products to stay put on large torroids/electrolytic caps to an amp board. This helps keep them secure under high heat and vibration. (Not the worst job I've seen, but still sloppy) Hi Ash... 'bout time ya checked in. How's tricks down south? Drew... "B-Stock" often means refurbished, out of date or products that don't meet specs. They are generally in good operating condition and about 60% off new prices. The guy who sold them with new shipping lables makes me wonder if he's reputable or a "snake oil" salesman that hopes he can make a nice profit on shoddy repairs and inferior merchandise? Good deals? Maybe for some buyers, but definitely not in your case. Swez PS My 17 year old daughter could have done a better rework job than what was noted in your pics. (With some oversight from D.O.D.) LOL newB on 09/30/2008 18:20:23 he is a solid seller, had a setup running several nine.1s in a walled mustang with ED 18" subs and has a long standing impact in the forums, i wouldn't consider him shady besides making me pay return shipping SAD -Drew Ash on 09/30/2008 21:12:09 Yeah Swez, it has been a while since I last logged on. I still frequently scanned the boards to what was happening lately. Right now I'm still in the middle of fixing up the blazer and have been quite busy picking out & ordering parts to complete the job in my spare time. All is good down here except for a few snags here & there. You know, normal life drama. You know I had a similar experience with a company. I ordered a billet grille insert and they sent out the wrong one. Well after I contacted them to rectify the situation, they wanted me to pay to have it shipped back as well. That kinda ticked me off because it was their fault and I felt like they should have bit the bullet on that one. Needless to say, I put it up for sale locally & severed my ties from any future business with them. I did let them know of my intentions. Guess you could call that a little "get back" for their arrogance. I doubt very seriously that they even cared, but hey! I felt avenged for the moment....
