Looking for wiring diagram and color codes for my 2000 Ford F150.
I have one for 1998 Ford F150....are they the same????? From what I can tell they're not.....but then again I have no clue as to what I'm doing.

Thanks to anyone that can help. Renee

It appears that the 1998 wiring is not the same as the 2000 model F-150 series. They changed a few things between those years and I wonder if you can get specific help on this topic via Crutchfield.com?

Lopping off the OEM wiring harness was a mistake. If you have the old harness parts and get the correct Harness Conversion kit, the job would be a lot easier.

Clutchfield didn't help much. I have finally located the wiring diagram, but there are still a few wires that I am confused about. Maybe process by elimination is by best shot at getting this installed.

It just hit me... IDEA

If you have a good library nearby, they often have donated repair manuals like "Chilton's or Haynes" for common model vehicles. These manuals have wiring diagrams for most systems in a given vehicle and color codes too.

Another IDEA... check this out... (pages 5-7)

I've checked both "Chilton & Haynes" They have wiring diagrams but not for audio.

The link you attached looks like it might have what I need. I'll let you know the outcome!!!

Thanks again for helping with all my pain in the butt questions. You have been a great help!

Well I'm confused again.....
Using the wiring diagram from the link above it states:

12v Ignition wire from my truck should be Black/Pink Stripe....gets connected to my HU Red wire.

12v Battery wire from my truck should be Light Green/Black Stripe....gets connected to my HU yellow wire.

I have 12v ignition wire from my truck as Black/Purple Stripe....connected to HU Red wire.

and 12v Battery wire from my truck as Light Green/Pink Stripe....connected to my HU yellow wire.

Now if I leave it like that and take the ground wire from my HU and connect it to metal body of truck and turn truck on to see if system works......if it is in fact wired wrong within those two wires will I damage anything in this process??????

The Red wire is your ACC/IGN connection. It only has power when the key is in ACC/RUN modes.

The Yellow wire always has power and this keeps the station memory, clock and other related functions from resetting everytime you turn off the engine and remove the key. This is the desired result we are looking for.

Once the HU is grounded properly, you'll know if you have it right. If not, the memory functions will reset or you'll blow a fuse in the panel box.

Tech tip: The best way to test wires is to have a low cost DMM on hand. (Digital Multimeter) For about $20 at WalMart or Radio Shack, this tool will take much of the guess work out of the process.

Do I need to disconnect my battery when attaching ground from HU?

Victor on 09/30/2008 17:03:08
no.. just keep the HU and the ignition off...

It won't hurt anything if you pull the NEG lead off the battery while doing your work. It's safe that way for newbies and all you'll need to do later is reprogram the clock and station presets after wiring is complete.

PS If there are any faults stored in the ECM or BCM computers, (Warning lamps and such) they will usually reset to factory settings. If the fault shows up again later, it needs to be addressed.

Well it's done........I finally have tunes!!! CLAP HAPPY !!! I have a yellow wire (not connected to anything) that was in my box of audio stuff. It's 16 AWG Gauge, and it has PRIMARY WIRE written on it. Can you tell me what that might go to??????

Victor on 10/5/2008 18:35:55
Ah, thats great, at last some music CLAP

Regarding that yellow 16awg wire...

Read what swez has written a couple of posts above.....

mayORmayNOT on 10/6/2008 16:26:36
Yeah, I got that........but this yellow wire is not attached to my truck or HU. It's just a loose wire I had that has PRIMARY written on it. Is it the same as the 12v Constant?

Victor on 10/6/2008 20:49:52
if that yellow wire is not attached to your truck or HU,

means it has 2 loose ends...??

if everything is working fine with the HU, don't bother about this wire....

mayORmayNOT on 10/6/2008 21:06:16
I'm just asking if this yellow wire labled PRIMARY is the same as a 12v constant yellow wire????

Victor on 10/6/2008 22:52:15
well if the "Wire" is not "Wired" GRIN then its definitely not the same as a 12V constant...

if it is labeled Primary, then it was meant to be a 12 V constant most probably...
