Stereo wiring for a 1989 Daihatsu Fourtrak

Hi,
Can anyone help me out with the stereo wiring colours for a 1989 Daihatsu Fourtrak? A previous owner has butchered the wiring completely SAD, but did thoughtfully include an aftermarket stereo (just shoved in the hole, not connected to anything) that I'd like to get working. The stereo itself is still labelled (and should be standard ISO anyway), so I just need to identify the Daihatsu wiring THINK. I've had a google, but can't find any info out there and there is nothing in my owners manual.

Thanks very much

This happens and one of our Pro Installers wrote an article on how to track down the proper wiring with few basic tools:

Hope that helps,

Thanks, I did read that, was hoping for some colour hints to go with it and hopefully make it a bit easier.

Yeah, the easy ones to find are the 4 pairs of speaker lines, the Constant Power lead and we make our own ground for Aftermarket HU's for best performance. (That's 10 wires to ID)

The other wires are the ACC/IGN which only has power when the the key in in ACC/IGN/RUN modes. The rest are Illumination for the HU lighting and perhaps a power antenna.

One thing one can do in the USA, is go to the library & read or buy car wiring diagram schematics/manuals for common vehicles available in the USA. (Chilton's or Hayes Manuals)

These manuals are more generic than the shop manuals used by Dealership Techs. But many US made cars and several imports use the same wiring codes for years in a series.

In a nutshell, investing in a modest DMM, (Digital Multimeter) is your best bet.

PS I have a cheap DMM and several Analog meters on hand for many uses. Once one gets familiar with them, there are many uses for a decent DMM. (About $20.00 USD will do)

Yeah, looks like I'm going to have to do it with the multimeter approach. I don't think there is a Haynes manual as it's not a common enough vehicle.

Thanks for the hints.

Good luck Ellie! If you need more input... just ask OK?

PS I don't believe your handle... Evil does not ask for help!

Will do, hopefully I'll get the chance to do it this weekend.
Thanks
