what are the best subs and amps to buy, and what are the best ones for the money?

"The Best XYZ system" is very subjective at best. Your budget and what is available in our area are factors to consider. The fact is, there are many fine subs and amps out there to choose from. Knowing more about your goals and budget constraints would be most helpful.
On a general note, "Bass Engines" range from modest and affordable systems to SPL Monsters. The latter requires substantial electrical upgrades and cost.
Can you offer some general guidelines and budget #'s so we can direction to appropriate products to get the job done?
In a nutshell, how much are you willing to spend and what results do you desire?
