Can anyone tell me to location of the factory subwoofer amp in a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon? I have the factory Infinity system with a Sony aftermarket stereo and I want to hokup the factory subwoofer that was not in the car when I bought it. I am told I will need to replace the amp to go with my Sony but I cannot find the location of the old one. There was no mention of a factory sub in this model. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pdqCu5Hkzzk/app/car/mycar.aspx Quote: "the factory subwoofer that was not in the car when I bought it" That would lead me to believe there is no factory sub amp installed if there was no sub installed. (Why install a factory amp w/o the woofer as these parts are not free?) Also, if there were an amp installed, there would be a fuse for it, noted in your car manual. Have a look and see if there is a fuse noted for such amp. May I suggest you simply install an Aftermarket amp, sub and wiring kit as if there were no factory amp? If the Sony HU has sub outputs, there's your audio signal source for the new amp. Comments? Swez quillp@earthlink.net on 08/30/2008 08:56:35 I have the factory sub which I bought on EBay. for what ever reason the factory sub had been removed from the car. The wiring harness is still there and all of the brackets match the one I bought on EBay so it is an exact factory replacemement. It is an Infinity sub designed for this location in the rear of the car. I can buy a new amp for this speaker however I would like to use the same wiring and therefore have to find the amp that goes with the factor sub that must still be somewhere in the car. It is not under the seats. I am thinking it is in the dash or in a side panel since it is not in the subwoofer enclosure itself. I was hoping to find out the approximate location so I do not have to tear out the whole side of the interior. swez on 08/30/2008 09:58:06 OK, good info here and this must be an upgrade option not mentioned in Crutchfield's general specs. It might be a good option to call Crutch and see what they say about the amp location for this sub. Hopefully they can tell you where that amp is located and if there are any OEM/Aftermarket conversion harnesses, (Plug and Play) that will keep the amps working with your Sony HU. 1-800-319-8264 What is the size & power rating of the sub they used and where is it located? Many small format subs are fine for a little bump in the low end, but if one likes Rap or Hip Hop, some bass tracks are so juiced up that most factory subs just can't take the strain at high volume. Did a quick look up on this model and it does state 2 versions of Infinity Premium Audio packages are available. For details, look here: http://www.tuninglinx.com/html/hyundai-tiburon-sports-coupe-2.html Nice little sports coupe! Swez quillp@earthlink.net on 08/30/2008 11:18:15 Thanks for the input, Is the 1-800-319-8264 number for Crutch you or Sony? I have no idea what the size and power rating are. Did not come with books. swez on 08/30/2008 16:35:40 That phone # is for Crutch. They sell Sony HU's too and may have a few harness tips to help you along the integration path. (I'm not in that loop, but Crutch Reps should be) There are 2 Infinity packages for this car. One is a 360 watt system and the other is 440 watts. Both offer the factory sub option. Ask Crutch Tech support where the amp is located and how/if you can integrate your Sony HU to the existing system. Keep us posted as you can OK? (We'll both learn something) Regards, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
