Will it be enough?

I'm looking at putting some decent sound into my Focus. I've got some Infinity reference 5x8's in the front ( http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10091664&catid=11049&logon=&langid=EN )

And here's what I'm looking at for subs

2 RF P3D212's ( http://www.crutchfieldcanada.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=575P3D212&CartID=1 )

1 Q-Logic box

1 Sony XM D9001GTR to power the system

My budget is about $1200 so if I can pay a little more and get something way better I'm all for it. This car will be a daily driver and I don't plan on entering any sound comps just yet.

I listen to a lot of techno / dnb so I'm in favour of using a sealed box for sharp, crisp bass.

And I'm planning on running the entire system @ 2 Ohms, unless someone can tell me why I shouldn't :D

Any thoughts?

not the best choice for an amp. but pretty good subs

this amp would work and hold up better

(Alpine)

swez or one of the golds can probably help out alot more with this

Agree w/ Kirch on the amp. The Sony amp is too small for the sub pairing mentioned as each sub will only get 250 watts RMS each.

The Alpine M1000 or the MRP-M850 would be good choices for these subs.

($270.00 USD)

Either way, these amps will pull some serious current at full power and put a hefty load on your stock electrical system too. Better set aside some extra cash for a dedicated battery to power either one.

You may also find the bass is out of balance, (Bass heavy) with the Infinity speakers noted if not amped as well. Nice choice of speakers too, but they need more than HU amping power to get the most from them.

That Amp looks really good, just overpriced here in Canada. I'll have to see what the brokerage fees will be to bring one in from sonic electronix.

Is it better to get a second battery than to upgrade the stock alternator? I'm also wondering how many CCA I would need for this. Also if theres enough room is it better to mount the 2nd battery in the engine bay?

And if I was concerned about the longevity of my car, would it be a good idea to cover the interior and firewall with dynamat or a similar product?

Thank you very much for your responses guys :D

The primary stock battery is generally large enough to start the vehicle. Once the engine is running, the ALT takes over all the electrical tasks and recharges the battery.

We often recommend a 2nd H.O. BAT as a current storage device to power large amplifiers. In most cases, these are mounted in the cargo area and close to the amp. For safety reasons, we recommend Gel Cell or AGM type batteries as they do not leak and can be mounted in any direction/orientation. You can use a single larger battery in the engine bay, but it has to fit.

Two makers come to mind for this application:

1. Kinetik HC1400 Power Cell (Recommended for your amp wattage)

2. Optima Yellow Top

http://www.optimabatteries.com/optima_products/yellowtop.php

The Yellow Top will probably be cheaper but note the Ah rating and output amperage of the Kinetik's as a guide. Here's a very good FAQ from Kinetik's on how to set up your system properly:

As for matting, the trunk or cargo area will probably rattle and vibrate heavily with this much bass energy. Adding material to add mass to panels that rattle will do the trick. Dynamat is a good product, but very pricey too. There are other brands like Elemental Design's "e-Dead" line of products that do a very good job and cost less too. Their paints are great for hard to reach places and matting for large panels.
