I have a 2000 Audi A6 and am looking to add a VIBE Black Air II 15" sub 650w RMS which i have already purchased and a Calibra stealth 650w RMS monoblock amplifier which i also have already bought...
I have also bought a 4 gauge wiring kit....
Firstly i wanna know if i should use a ported, sealed or bandpass enclosure for the sub..
Secondly is it even possible to hook the amp on2 a stockstandard head unit?
Thirdly, is it a long procedure? because i got one quote for like R2800 (south african rands) nd tht is including enclosure nd labour nd wiring...is it a hefty sum or is it reasonable?

Found that sub mentioned and it looks like an SPL type sub for high efficiency output. It's a 2+2 DVC but no specs on enclosure design recommendations given. Sealed is always a safe bet and the smallest box for more cargo room.

Nothing of details on this model Calibra amp. To get the most from it, I'd hope it's 1 ohm stable to match the sub. If you had to wire the sub for 4 ohms, what would be the RMS power output from this amp?

Yes, if this amp has high level/speaker level inputs, you can tap off the rear speakers to the input side of the amp. Do you have a web link to the maker of this amp? (A copy of the user/install manual would be most helpful)

R2800 = $361.00 USD

A good price for a well built box would be about R1000. ($125.00 USD) That would be 3/4" thick MDF. (Double that if they use fiberglass)

A fair labour price for installing the #4 gage kit would be about R660. ($85.00 USD)

I can see R2000 for the whole job as about right, unless they build a custom design enclosure in fiberglass and first rate job at that. R2800 is justified if they glass your enclosure.

Install time would be under 3 hours. If they fabricate a box for you, figure about 2.5 hours if it's a basic cube or rectangle. If they do a custom glass enclosure, it may take 8-12 hours fabrication plus curing time between coats and painting it.

Say more please,

yo thanx man the sub is fitted and i used sumn called an RCA converter because my Amp didnt hav speaker level imputs...i used a ported enclosure but somehow i feel that for the size of the sub, im not getting the bass i should be... in the car the bass is kikass bt outside the car its nt exactly earth shattering...even with the backseat dropped...anything i can do? i suspect it could be the enclosure...

This depends a lot on the enclosure/sub being properly matched and the amp output to sub resistance matching.

Not knowing the box specs recommnedation of this sub, makes it difficult to determine if the box is the right size or not. If you have good deep bass inside the car, chances are good the sub in mounted in a decently matched box.

This sub you have is a 2+2 ohm voice coil. If they had to wire the sub for a 4 ohm load to protect the amp, the sub is getting about 300 watts RMS at full power and not 650 as rated at 2 ohm loads.

Good bass inside the car, but not outside the car, indicates a well dampened interior. (Noise reducing padding in floors, trunk/boot and interior are common in premium cars) That's the way most guys like it. Keep the bass inside the car and not let too much leak outside.

The only thing to consider now is to go back to your installer and see if they can kick up the bass output from this mentioned amp. Ask them how they wired the sub, (1 or 4 ohm load) and is the amp stable at 1 ohm loads?

the sub is wired at 4 ohm at 650w rms...

its not a DVC sub.. it onli has 1 coil... and once again i state that it is wired at 650w rms at 4 ohm...and i have established that the enclosure is perfect ecause when i compare it to the output of other subs it wins hands down. its jus the padding that is dampening the sound,, so now i have another question... You see the sub is facing towards the trunk of the car.. so wat if i rotate it to face inside the car?? wont that improve the sound?? and i am also thinking of fitting a second sub of the same kind...but wont the two subs cancel each other out?ANOTHER Q is that wud it be better if i fit them in one enclosure or wud it be better if i leave them as is in separate enclosures? last q. wont the 2 subs cancel each other out in terms of bass reproduction???
