You can try moving the sub box around in the truck to find where the sweet spot is. Some guys report better bass when they fire the subs forward toward the back seats. The distance between the subs and rear seat backs is the variable to adjust.

It's bizarre, but most cars have similar sized & shaped trunks relative to acoustics. SUVs & crossover vehicles are different though.

In most cases, the cancellation will be less facing rearward with the box wedged up against the seat. This makes the deepest bass come through the best. In an SUV/Xover, you can design a box to fit in many configurations and get very good results facing most any direction. Trunk/hatchback cars are limited though--especially if you intend to use the trunk.

You may get slightly better performance moving the box around your trunk...the problem is you won't have any place to put luggage, cargo, dead bodies & groceries...so usually you're limited to wedged up against the back seat. That means facing rearward. If you don't care how much trunk you waste, experiment away.

The benefit will be minor, however.

I agree with Mr. B'.... any benefits will be negligent when compared to having the right setup in the first place. If there is a certain sound that you are trying to target, then it's simpler to aim at that in the first place.

Then there is aesthetics. It needs to help keep the car's functionality while performing as well. Even after it sounds good, it's still impressive to see a clean install that allows the car to have real world use....

Ash,
