Installing 12in Power Acoustick FUBAR subwoofer

Ok, I'm not to good at installing systems, but I do know a little bit. A friend of my is actually installing this one for me. Thank god! I just had a few basic questions.

Ok, right now I have...
Sony xplod head unit (hate it)
two 12 in spx subwoofers
1 spx amp
4 kickers (doors)
4 tweeters (doors)

I'm taking out the pep boy brand subwoofers and amp, and replacing them with one 12 in. power acoustick fubar subwoofer. It's pretty beast I'll tell you that much. It's 1800 peak i believe, 800rms. Anyway, he is giving me an older model kenwood amp. I'm not sure what model.. its like a 9100 or 9010 or something like that.

My question is THIS. What gauge speaker wire should i use to run the sub to the amp? My main wire (from battery) is pretty thick and solid, as is my ground wire. Everything else is thin, and he said I should get a thicker wire. I just don't know what the best gauge would be.

We don't have the speakers (door) running to anything but the head unit, he suggested since they are kickers, and pretty decent we should run the 400rms amp that i have now to the door speakers.. I myself have never heard of this. Is that a good idea? If so, should I upgrade that wire as well? And what gauge?

I also have a 1farad cap that isn't hooked up at all yet. Not sure if I'm going to hook it up. Not sure if it's really worth it lol.

Any other installation tips are welcome as well.

Oh..

I have a 2001 VW Jetta base edition. Stock battery and alt. Upgrading to an optima battery as soon as I have the extra cash, alt. I'll deal with when the time comes lol.

well u just gave some basic info here but with respect to subwire.. some 12awg shod be great!

using a decent 2ch instead over ur Head Unit on ur midrange would also be better it will get louder..

with regards to current.. idk what stock battery you have but an optima would be a good buy.. using the cap would help you a bit as well dependin on how powerfull that kenwood amp is.

some 16awg would be quite alright for ur mid speakers as well.. dunno what you have currently..

anything else?

sorry, i know its basic. he rambles all this stuff off to me and by the end of the day when im done work, im like.. wow.. what.

so runnin the speakers to a 2ch amp oppose to the head unit works? i just dont wanna start blowing fuses and stuff.. jettas are famous for electrical problems so i have heard.. crossing my fingers i've only had this one for about 2 months.

its an interstate battery, they are famous here locally lol. i heard optimas are good buys, and they last... so thats something i'm already prepared to get.

i dont know how familiar you are with subwoofers.. but do you think the kenwood amp will be sufficent enough for the fubar? i know the fubar is about 1800peak and i think kenwood is atleast 600rms, possibly 800.

i want the best sound possible. i love bass... i like having just enough treb with the best sounding bass.. the ground thumping kind.. that people can hear from inside a block away lol.. that deep bass. thats what im craving. the ones i have now just don't do it at all. i mean there is bass.. but with the treb in my car.. it just doesn't sound right to me. could also be because i think it's on it's way out..

either way.. thank you for the help.. and i look forward to another response =)

lol. well a 600-800w amp should be fine for this woofer.. in the correct enclosure "box" you will definately get the bass you are looking for..

and yes as long as your buddy knows what he is doing the amp will do great as a dedicated midrange amplifier. will be alot louder.

all in all your stuff seems to be in order.. you may need some extra processing eg preamp or crossover to get maximum output and quality sound from this system.. a good headunit can do a fine job as well though not sure which model sony you have.. gimme a model # i'll let ya kno..
