UKinstaller

I have a 2001 Hyundai accent with the wiring harness cut off and trying to install an after market radio. UKinstaller had a great article on the general subject but also indicated he may be able to provide the specs on the wires. I'm not sure how to locate him for the information so I thought I'd use this format.
HELP!

Ouch, that will make things a bit harder to find the proper wires w/o color codes for this car.

This is best done by a process of elimination. The easiest but most tedious are the speaker leads. There should be at least 4 pairs or 8 wires for speakers. The solid wire is often paired with a striped wire to indicate polarity. (Solid is usually + and striped wire is return - line)

Use the process recommended by UK's tuitorial to ID each speaker line and what speaker it feeds and write down the color codes as you find them.

The next step is to find the Constant 12 volt supply line in the factory wiring. A simlle 12 volt test lamp will work, but a meter is even better. With the car battery connected, attach the alligator clip probe lead to a grounded metal bracket in the dash pocket or bare metal on the firewall.

Probe for the +12 volt constant as this keeps the HU memory and such in tact.

Probe again for the ACC/IGN wire supply line. This line is only powered in ACC/IGN mode. (No power on that line to ground when key is removed.

Some cars come with power antenna feeds. They only show +12 volts when the AM/FM circuits are on. When in CD and Aux modes, no power on that line.

The ILL line is not needed in most cases. Better HU's have dimmer display features in their menu setup programs.

Finally, ALWAYS ground the HU black wire to a known good ground in the dash, firewall or floor pan. This is to bare metal w/o paint, rust and other such things.

That pretty much covers it all. If you have any more questions, just ask and we'll try to steer you along.
