Battery Corrosion

I just popped my hood up, to check the fluids in my car. I noticed that there is a white powdery corrosion on the postive 0/1 guage distributor that is connected directly to the positive battery terminal.

Is this ok? I scrapped the corrosion off (most of it). It was not a lot, but a good corner of the distro block had it on it. It is only about a month old and made by KnuKonceptz.

Was just curious if this is something I need to fix or not.

Thanks.
Derek

Clean with baking soda and water.... flush well and then coat the terminal and such with oil or grease.

Odd it took only a short time to build up, but not unusual either.

Will do. I thought it was odd as well. I'm going to keep my eye on it, see if it gets any worse.

Thanks.

Coca cola works wonders on batter corrosion.. No, I am being serious. The citric acid and carbination will take it off as good or better then anything else...

But......... if you don't get the Coca-Cola washed off of EVERYTHING else, it will eventually eat it away. Including paint, rubber, plastic, and even the engine over enough time.

If you don't believe me, try leaving a nail in a cup of coke for a day or two. See what happens.

as long as you use it sparingly, and yes wipe it up, there are no issues...

Wonder if beer would work?

Who in their right mind would want to waste BEER!

Actually, beer has a PH of around 4.5, a little higher then coke. As for the nail in coke, never had anything happen when i tried it.

I also remember reading somewhere that baking soda and water clean corrosion best because baking soda is basic and it helps neutralize the battery acid better, making it easier to clean. Not sure if theres any truth to that though...?

It was good enough for my Dad for many years as I learned from him when Hector was a pup.... a long time ago...

PS Shame on you... wasting good beer that way ! GRIN
