Im building a friends box for two 12 type r's in a single cab truck. Im using alpines specs(1.7cubes at 36hz). The only port location is under the box facing the seats. Would that be a factor to consider? I believe that most of the air will be pushed under the seats where the amps are located, extra cooling maybe? Friends box was 2.6cuft @38hz w/ ~40sqin of port on 1400w and his single Type R was LOUD -Drew kcdakrt on 07/16/2008 07:19:50 Well that is the biggest the box can be. I forgot to mention that the specs are for each woofer. It just happens to be the optimum specs so... The ports would be 90deg from the floor where as the sub would be 118, so the angle isnt that bad. swez on 07/16/2008 09:09:53 You can do as mentioned as long as there are no major obstructions in front of the ports. If using 4" diameter ports, you need at least 4" clearance from any hard, reflective or absorbant surfaces. Remember, ports are tuned to the low end of the woofers capacity and that's about 36-50 Hz. Above that range, the ports become less a factor and it pure cone radiation that delivers the upper bass range. Having the ports low in the chamber and firing under the seats should feel pretty interesting too.
