I have a rockford fosgate amplifier and a type e 10 subwoofer. I want to get another type e 10 sub. My amp can power two subs but I saw someone with two type e 12 subwoofers but he had two rockford fosgate amplifiers. Is it wise to get a second amplifier? I have no idea what im doing with my subs im just starting to get into this stuff. any info or opinions would be helpful, thanks. (Model #) 2. Which Alpine type E sub do you have now? (Model #) Knowing that, we can give you some configuration options. Swez mchernego on 07/14/2008 10:23:02 My amp is a Punch P400-2 and my subwoofer is a SWE-1242 10-inch 4 ohm. swez on 07/14/2008 11:13:59 Good sub, strong amp. This amp has a bit more power than the E-1242 can handle , but with care in your setup, this sub should bump nice. In this case, it would be good to use the 2 channel amp bridged MONO. This nets 400 watts RMS + to a 250 watt rated sub. Setting the amp gain properly is the key to the sub's survival. Here's a copy of the manual in Adobe Reader format. (pages 7-9) http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/575/575P4002P.PDF 1. The crossover LPF is set at ~80 2. Bridge the amp as shown in speaker wiring on page 7 3. The gain needs to be set roughly at #6 position and adjusted as needed to get clean and strong bass (some careful attention here) 4. If you have the remote Punch EQ, use the boost sparingly! Since this amp requires an 80 amp fuse, you'll need a #4 gage power line and ground wiring kit. Any more questions? Swez mchernego on 07/14/2008 11:57:51 ok but i want to get another subwoofer, the same kind. Does my amp have enough power to cover two alpine e 10 subs. My guess would be yes because you said that my amp has more power than the subwoofer can handle so now that i will have two it will be able to distribute the power equally. But this is just a guess. Whats your opinion? SQLThump on 07/14/2008 13:35:32 This amp would be less than well paired to a pair of type E's. 2 channel amps rarely can handle a two ohm mono load, and make max power at 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono. If using the amp mono, and powereing a pair of 4 ohm type E, youj will see a 2 ohm load on your amp, which could cause damage virtually instantly, or cause a slow death sentance. Also, it would be underpowering the sub by 100 watts, which isn't too bad, but won't push these guys to the max. For a pair of Type-E's I would reccommend a dedicated sub amp pushing 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms to get the best performance. mchernego on 07/14/2008 14:34:52 Ok so do you think that a RF P500-2 Amplifier would be good for 2 type e 10 alpines? Or do you think it would have to much power because I read that the P500-2 is great for powering two 8 ohm subwoofers, but mine would only be two 4 ohm subwoofers. SQLThump on 07/14/2008 16:16:09 Check this out..... Alpine MRP-M500 http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=500MRPM500&tp=115 I promise you this will pair up perfectly with your Type-E's. The reason I suggest you stick with a Class-D amp, is that there is no Class A/B amps that will pair up with the Type E when used in a pair, as the two ohm load is not freindly on them, and you will not really be able to milk all the power from an amp without risking damage. Also, class D amps are much more efficient than A/B, which will put less of a strain on your charging system. On top of that, the MRP-M500 specwise will match up perfectly with the Type-E's for the power needed, and ohmage load presented. On top of that, it offers all of this at a much better price than other respected manufacters, with Alpine's Solid reputation standing behind it. swez on 07/14/2008 17:01:24 Agreed... if you want to add a 2nd E sub to this plan, consider the Alpine amp suggested. (MRP-M500) It's a true Class D amp design and will draw less power than your present RF amp. Also, when you note the Gold Medal by a poster's name, that indicates they have passed a review of other Golds to get that award. In short, they know the ropes well and if a mistake is made, another Gold will usually catch it and clarify the issues. ;-) Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
