Help!! Chevy Aveo

Hello I have a 2008 chevy aveo it is brand new. recently I tried wiring in my xm radio directly into the power for the stock am/fm radio. well I screwed up and hooked the positive wire to remocon ground + and the negitive wire to the ground. now my stereo dosent turn on the backlighting comes on but not the stereo itself and my clock doesnt work except when the drivers door is closed. also, my tire pressure system light is on now. I was told it probably logged some trouble codes into the ecm and it will need to be reflashed does thias sound right to anyone? thanks in advance.

Ouch dude, major ouch. Major Major super ouch. You probably blew a stereo fuse, and the backlighting probably is wired through the insturments. Go through your fuse box, and check every fuse's condition. If you ger a fuse tester, it will make this much easier and shorter.

The behavior of your clock makes me suspect more than superfical consequences are at hand due to your accident. Most parts stores will check your ECM codes free of charge, and reset them if neccessary. Pay close heed to what these are, and get a printout of whatever they were before deleting them.

Is there any other problems with the vehicle's functioning? Running funny, anything at all since this happened?

A word to the wise, always triple check your wiring before putting power to anything.

I have checked every fuse and they are all fine by pulling them and lookin at them. I also disconnected the battery for about 60 seconds still doing the same thing. as far as the vehicle running I have only let it run for about 2 min or so since this happend but it seems to be running fine everything else works perfectly.

Bummer there Nick!

It may be wise to remove all your work and take the car back to the dealer for warranty repairs and reset the ECM. They may balk at replacing the factory radio for free, so just be honest about what you did and hope the service manager is able to help you w/o a big repair bill. In fact, it may be cheaper to install a decent Aftermarket radio that will mate up easily to the XM unit on hand.

Some things are best left to Professional Installers that know what they are doing and if they make a mistake, the shop takes the hit to fix the problems they caused. As noted here, one wire in the wrong location can set off a cascading set of troubles later. Pros have the right tools and know how to prevent such things.

Sorry to read of your situation, but use it as a "Life Lesson". It takes time to learn how to do this kind of work properly. Having the proper tools help a lot too.

I'm afraid you damaged the circuitry. If you haven't cut any wiring, take it back in to the dealership & play dumb. Heck, even if you have monkeyed with it they might bill GM under warranty & fix it.

The newest vehicles are the hardest because few of us have any experience with them unless the model is a carry over of previous years. The fact that the fuses are all fine isn't a good sign.

Unless there's a reset button on one of your pieces, you'll probably have to take it in. Sorry :-(

Well I took it to the local chevrolet dealer today in St Cloud it turned out that the tires from the factory were all set at different pressures that is what set the tps monitor light off as for the stereo and clock it turned out to be a faulty radio fuse even though visually the fuse was fine it cost $113 for them to fix and tell me that but alot better than a new ecm or wiring harness

Funny how a bunch of things can compile like that, and I wonder why the tires were set at different pressures.

Anyway, happy to see it was an easy fix, and didn't cost you too much.
