Hows it goin everyone?
Strange problem, I recently installed an Alpine CDE-9872. The radio works perfectly, but when I put a CD in sound only comes through the right side speakers.
Does anyone know a possibe cause and solution?

That seems to indicate the laser lense could be miss-reading the tracks. It could be in need of a good lense cleaning or the lense is out of alignment and needs re-calibration.
The only other thought I can think of, the CD preamps that feeds the main amplifier circuits may have a blown preamp chip or some board level problems. This takes skilled hands to diagnose & repair such things. If this unit is still under warranty, take that route. If not, the repair costs may be higher than replacing with another known good Head Unit.
The good news here, all amp channels do work properly in AM/FM mode. That says the main HU amplifiers are OK and the FM preamps are good. But it sounds like the CD audio path has problems. Have you tried the old TV repairman's trick? (A good rap on the dash to see if things come back to life?)
Finally, this is one of the entry level line products from Alpine. Generally, Alpine makes very solid and reliable products. This unit may have slid by Quality Control and is not up to snuff. If it's still under warranty, take that option.
