Ok, I just bought a 1999 Holden Vectra. It came with a stock tape deck / cd controller. The HU display is wired to a multi-function computer display in the dash console. The HU controls a stock 6 speaker system. I want to put a CD player in hopefully one with MP3 support. I already have a JVC HU that I bought last year for my previous car and kept when I sold it. The JVC HU plays mp3s but only has a 4 speaker output. So I am looking for comments on what to do. Really, I'm just looking to add CD/MP3 support to the exisiting system which leads me towards adding a changer of some sort. But the fact that I already have a pefectly good HU is causing some hesitation. Has anyone been in a similar situation before? What did you do? Or has anyone replaced the stock HU from a current model Vectra? I am particularly interested to know what happens to the computer display on the dash. Thanks for any comments! Carlos COFFEE Replies (4) Swez on 09/8/2003 07:28:10 That's tough call... and I am not familiar with the Vectra at all. But if there is an integrated serial buss line from the car computer(s) ECM/BCM etc... you may be hard pressed to remove same without losing that link and perhaps some engine control features (or at least monitoring of same). In your case, you may have to consider an FM Modulated CD/MP3 player here... if you chose to keep the existing HU and all the features. The only other chose I can think of.... install the JVC HU elsewhere in the dash (if possible) then add a player that is remote to the truck (boot) or other location. Any other comments there folks? Swez ttocs on 09/8/2003 11:33:51 yea, never heard of that one... with the screen you may or may not be in trouble. I would say to check with a shop. By asking them as though you are going to have them do it you can find out if it would be a hassle or not... carlos on 09/9/2003 02:15:39 Thanks for the comments and any more that come, I'm not in hurry right now and will keep you posted on anything that I find out or decide on. Carlos Tray on 09/9/2003 15:18:31 I'd look into adding a changer. Kenwood Music Keg Phatnoise Phatbox I don't know what US GM vehicle is equivalent to the Vectra, but you may know a bit more about that. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
