right now i have 2 15 inch comp vrs. i want to add more but im not sure what i want to, maybe you guys can help me. i was considering adding 2 more 15s or adding 1 18". by doing either of these will i be able to notice a difference. i will probably be building a new box for my back seat, if i go with the 4 15s i will have one large box with 4 chambers one for each sub, if i go with the 18 ill have 3 chambers 2 for the 15s and one for the 18. ii was thinkin about the 18 because not many ppl around here have them and i think it would add something new to the system. also what type of wood should i use, i know everybody uses mdf which i will probably use but it really expensive around here, any stores other than menards sell it? ill have to do some measuring to see how much space i have to work with, its alot since its going to be in the back seat, i was figuring probably 2.5-3.0 for the 15s and 4.0 -5.0 for the 18, that sound reasonable.

What is lacking now with your 2x15" sub system now? Are you using a large sealed enclosure or a ported for these subs now?

If you add an 18" sub here, need an additional amp to power it as well. The box will be huge if you want deep, low bass and the amp will need to be pretty close to 1000 watts RMS to power this beast as well.

No doubt... a major electrical upgrade will be needed as well, to power all the amplifiiers you will be running. So you'll need some major cash to do this addition... and box space as well.

Might be better off looking at your present enclosure for the 15's. If you have a smaller ported or sealed box, but want more SPL in the bass range... ported will help as well as a large enoough amp(s) to power them. If I recall... don't you have a pair of KX600.1 powering these subs already?

its not really lacking anything, i just want to have more than anybody else around here, a few ppl have 15s but only one or 2. so i figured i would be satisifed with 4 15s. i think i will just go with 2 more 15s becuase the 18 costs more than the 2 15s. the enclosure i have now is probably 2.75 cubic feet ro so to the subs. im going to need help later on with the the box building. i think ill be able to do it i just need to figure how much room i have to work with. the back side of the box will be angled to form the angle where the frame for the back seat was. and then the top and front will will come out to 90 degree angles. its rather hard to describe, but it will be like taking a square and running a divider from top left corner to bottom right corner. i will have to subs facing foward and 2 facing up. makin any sence. it just like a normal box but running a divider diagonally and having a seprate enclosure for the subs facing up, will actually be 4 seprate enclosures in one box. the subs facing up will have more cubic space. will go on more when it comes time to actaully making the box

Oh yeah... I know that game. Did the same thing with a custom dual 10" cabinate in a very tight F150 crew cab....

Also, if you do add 2 more 15's, that means 2 more KX600.1 too right? Do yo have the electrical to manage 150A., worth of current draw? Better plan ahead right?

Yep, you should be the loudest dude in the lot with this setup....

no i wont need two more amps, because i have the dual 2 ohm subs wired at 4 ohms and then i can paralell them to a 2 ohm load to one amp. so instead of one amp/ one sub, it will be one amp/ 2 subs. they will still be gettin the same power so it should be ok. im just deciding to wheather i want to wait now becuase i want to get a new car, and im looking into 96-98 eclipses and celicas, and im sure fitting 4 15s is not going to happen, probably hard enough to fit 2. but i could always sell them later on if i want to. the job im at right now were are working 50-72 hour weeks so i dont have time to spend the money, so when thursday comes ill have all of my last check plus all of this check, probably close to 775 to 800 to spend on whatever i want, maybe a good 2 channel amp for my front componets.

Or you can try going with 2-8 ohm 15's, and 2- 8ohm 12's--- moving almost twice the air at 2 ohms with the same power you have now. Definitely not saying that more power would not help if you want to be the loudest around!

would there be a noticable difference if i added 2 12s to my 2 15s, instead of adding 2 more 15s. or would it be a waiste of my time.

Well... there are some benefits to mixing 12's and 15's. The 12's can be used more like a punchy midbass application (small sealed enclosure... under 0.8 cf/12"). The 15's are the "big guns" for deep bass.

Can split the frequencies to each size with active or passive filters and get what most large Pro systems do... a 4 way system.

Here's a possible breakdown for you to consider:

1. 15" subs...... 30 - 50 Hz
2. 12" midbass.... 50 - 100 Hz (perhaps a tad high than 100 Hz)
3. Interior midrange.... 100 - 3,500 Hz
4. Tweets..... 3,500 and up (or what ever the tweeter crossover range is)

The dual 15's will demand the most space and power. The 12's need very little space and moderate power as they are not going to reproduce low bass. Can use the same amp if you wish.

Use one channel for the 15's and set the LP crossover as noted. Then run the 12's off the other channel (if you wish) and use Fmods HP filters to block bass below 50 Hz., and LP filter set to ~100 Hz. Balancing out the gains will keep the 12's from over powering the mix in general.

The rest of your system will be interior setup as usual. But to have a decent SQ balance, they need to be amped as well. Most HU's will not cut it.

Does this option do anything you'd be interested in?

yea that 4way sounds good but wouldnt i need an amp for my interior speakers? i just bought a pioneer premier 750 cd/mp3 player last night so im going to hold off on the addition to the subs for a minute, i thought about maybe just building a bigger box for my current 15s but i doubt it will make a huge difference. im probably at 2.5 to 3.0 cubic feet now per sub, i was thinking of maybe going with 4.5 cubic feet would that help any, i just want more bass. i know right now i have alot but i just want more. i still have like 500 dollars to spend once thursday comes. i just want raw bass, it dont have to have great sq because every loose thing inside the car shakes anyways. i know adding 2 more 15s will probably increase 5-6 dbs but its that alot. i mean like is there a big difference for 140dbs to 145dbs. id say im probably somewhere in that range.
