okay my system is on the fritz, was working fine then turned the car on one time and the speakers werent working but my subs were. ive fixed numerous other problems with the system before but never had something like this happen. i have power to my deck, the display works the controls are all in check, but the only sound i get is out of the subs. i have four speakers hooked up to the deck, and i know i couldnt have blown all four cuz i dont really crank it and i know its limits. i checked all the wiring and it seems to all be in check so now im lost as to what could be causing the malfunction. any ideas?

what deck do you have?

Alot of radios will shut off their amp if they detect a speaker is shorted. Check all your speaker connections both behind the deck and behind the speaker

Agreed, another thing to check before getting deep, is to see if your radio has a menu feature that shuts off the internal amps and only feeds the RCA's signals. Many of the better decks have this feature and if it was accidentally activated, you'll have these results. Consult your owners manual to see if this model has that feature and what steps are needed to reset that feature to get the main speakers working again.

If your radio does not have this feature, there is a way to test each speaker feed for shorts, but you'll need an Ohmeter and have to pull the HU, (Radio, Deck, Player) out of the dash to test each wire set to each speaker. It's tedious work to troubleshoot this way, but if the above solution does not work, this is the next logical step.

If you need more help, just ask,

you can also test your speakers with a simple AA battery but again it does take time.

i found the problem. ya i feel like an idiot cuz it was a grounded speaker in the rear, one of my 6x9's, the wire was crushed between the car and my sub box. it got pushed back cuz i stuffed my tool box behind it. to fill in the blanks i got a Alpine cda 9847 HU, polk audio door speakers, sony explode 6x9's (crap), the best part i think is my amp and subs, nothin to crazy, visonik 800w amp with two 12's. it sounds good but nothin ever sounds good enough to me. hoping to get rid of the sony's and pick up a new HU.
thanks for the help, if i had a lil more patience i would have found the problem sooner. ill def be postin again, this is a really cool thread.
