hows everyone doing now a days??? my friends getting a new system for his 06 audi and is mainly focusing on spl ( 2 12in subs, amp, eq, hu) heres what ive come up with just figured id see if what everyones opinion was.. (hu) http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18846 he wanted navigation as well as cd capabilities (amp) http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19395 (subs) http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16592 (eq) http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18046 subs will be wired parallel to the amp for a 1ohm load i already told him he will need to do some electircal upgrades for this sytem to due the amount of power it will use any help will be useful Replies (4) swez on 06/13/2008 04:25:35 Some great choices on gear so far. The HU, sub amp and EQ will be a nice grouping together. These subs are definitely SPL subs. I cannot discern if they are 4 ohm SVC's, Dual 2 or 4 ohm DVC's. can you ellaborate? (Ideally, they are dual 4+4 DVC's to get a bet 1 ohm load) Yes, he's going to need a major electrical upgrade to handle the sub amp noted. However, there is no mention of F/R stage speaker and an amplifier to bring up the mid/highs. As noted, he'll have loads of bass, but HU power amps will not keep up with the bass engine as noted. Comments? Swez kirchatndftbl on 06/13/2008 06:01:40 he said something about his car already having the stock infinity speakers upgrade or something in his car but im not sure. the subs are quad 1 ohm which would be dual 2 ohm??? if so i will look into a different amp for the subs.. http://www.soundstream.com/subwoofers-splx.htm and soundstreams website rates the subs at 750rms ea sub so the amp will also probably be reduced in power swez on 06/13/2008 10:01:53 The linked specs show the SPLX-124 to be a quad-1 ohm coilset. The manual for this sub and recommended wiring for for a pair of them, (See page 3 for wiring diagram in .pdf file) shows dual 4+4 coils The install diagram seems in error here. On one page, it shows a pair of 4+4 DVC's in parallel for a net 1 ohm load. However, on the general page link you gave, it notes Quad-1 ohm coils??? http://www.soundstream.com/manuals/2006/sbw/SPLX%20SUBWOOF.pdf I am totally confused by the two different schemes and thing the manual may be a misprint. Better verify the recommended wiring and termination schemes with Tech Support. It seems like they don't have their detail right/clear on the manual VS general specs pages. Swez Victor on 06/13/2008 16:37:27 Theres something dearly wrong with the manual... give me creeps... they are making us blow our subs..... anyways....THIS IS WHAT I INTERPRET OF THE MANUAL. SPLX-122 Thats a Quad 2 ohm sub.... meaning 2+2+2+2 = alternatively can be treated as a 4ohm DVC too. That is what the wiring diagram in the pdf shows.... SPLX 124 is a Quad 1 ohm sub. meaning 1+1+1+1 = alternatively can be treated as a 2ohm DVC too. WHERE AS IN REAL WORLD....model numbers such as 122 are given to a 2ohm DVC and 124 to 4ohm DVC, by most companies... i dont know how soundstream identifies these models though... ((((((((( 2 subs of Quad 2 ohm or 2 subs of dual 4 ohm will give u following wiring options -net load - 1 ohm, 4 ohm, 16ohm. 2 subs of Quad 1ohm or 2 subs of dual 2 ohms will give you the following wiring options -net load - 0.5ohm, 2 ohm, 8ohm ))))))))) get in touch with the tech support and bring to their notice how the owners manual and the website specs differ... also ask them to make it clear on the wiring diagram for 2 of these subs before you buy them.... tech-support@soundstream.com hope that helps...
