Hey, it's me again. Havent been on here in a longgg time. Anyways, i just hooked my old system up into my new car and after hours of hard work everything seemed fine. But when i started up the car to go home the subs made a constant loud humming noise. This noise did not happen earlier when i just turned the key slightly to see if it worked but only happens when the car is running. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem? PS I am going to remove the rca wires today to see if the noise still occurs and redo the ground wire Replies (5) Bass_bass_10 on 05/28/2008 06:21:12 I just checked the rca's when i unplug them the humming stops, anyone know what this means? swez on 05/28/2008 09:19:19 More often than not, the hum is often a grounding problem between the HU, amps and other processors in the audio chain. Most aftermarket HU's are not grounded properly if we just use a harness ground and this causes the Hum. Grounding the HU to a dedicated ground, (Fire wall, flooring and the amps as well will often cure the problem) If you are using a Pioneer HU, most guys can remove the hum by installing an additional grounding wire from the RCA outputs to the fire wall or floor board. Swez Bass_bass_10 on 05/28/2008 10:23:56 I am using a pioneer HU actually, so can i go to almost any car audio shop and ask them to install this ground wire, or better yet can i buy and install it myself? Bass_bass_10 on 05/28/2008 13:31:47 strange thing is when i left the garage and put the car into drive and started movin the noise went away :/ its as clear as it can get while im driving and even a bit so while im stopped but once i have it in park it seems to make the noise.. dont know if this makes sense or not swez on 05/28/2008 17:25:56 Yes, this is a ground loop issue. It has become an issue on many Pioneer HU's over the past year or so. If I recall the details, there are 2 main steps to eliminate this one. 1. Use a "dedicated grounding wire" for the HU and not the harness ground. This means a separate wire to bare metal in the dash housing or directly to the floor pan or firewall. (Bare metal) 2. Some guys have found a fix by wrapping bare wire around the grounding "claw" of the RCA's and solder them. Then attach the tag ending of wire to a screw on the chassis of the HU. This is a delicate matter as when soldering, we don't want to melt the plastic used in the jack to damage it or create a short. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
