Hey whats up guys....
Heres my problem. Me and my friend went to instal a new headunit i got for my 94 cutlass supreme. pull the old one out and start to strip the wires to put the new sony xplod in with its proper wire harness. During the stripping my friend got mildly shocked by one of the wires, and finished up hooking it up, not thinking anything about it. When i go to start my car up it, it dosent start. All you hear is clicking, but nothing happens. all my lights in the car still turn on and the headunit actually started turning on, so i couldnt have killed the battery. I just dont understand what the **** i did.....
If anybody has any ideas on what the **** i did please help me out. Iam really hoping i just blew a fuse, and this isnt gonna be a expensive fix...

did you check your fuses yet?

It does sound like your battery is too low to start the car. You'll need a jump start to get the engine going again and the alternator will recharge the battery back up after about 20 minutes of charging. Leaving the key in the ACC mode for 30 minutes is usually enough to drain the battery.

Also, when guys don't know the ropes, it's always a safe bet to disconnect the Neg batter terminal when doing electrical work like this. That will prevent accidental shorts and shocks that often lead to blown fuses or a dead battery.

Most cars have wiring harness kits that allow us to use the old harness and just plug in the new Aftermarket, attach a few extra wires and install the new unit with minimal effort or mistakes. I take it you did not get one for this install? They cost 10-12 bucks at WalMart and really simplify the install process.

Here's a basic video on installation tips and techniques. Since you have a GM car, the install requires an adapter pocket to make things come out neat and clean.

Finally, welcome to CK and realize that this is a PG site. We don't use profanity here and ask that you don't either. Yes, we all get frustrated when things go wrong. Go ahead and "vent" as needed, then come here for suggestions after a cooling off period.

Good luck,

oh yea my bad dude haha. Last night after thinking about it and i figured it must have been a dead battery so AAA is coming over to giv it a jump. I pray to God that its as easy as this. Cause i just got this car and i wanted to put in a system, and of course i break it somehow... haha
I had no idea they had adapters.... i am not gonna mess with it anymore iam just taking it up to best buy n pay them man to do it....
Thx man 4 the help

Some cars are very easy to swap out HU's. GM products make things a bit more challenging, but the aftermarket harness makes things much easier in the long run.

In the future, ask for help "before" you dive into the unknown. It much easier to guide a newbie into a project than to pull them out of a snag such as yours. Many here are die-hard DIY'ers. But we try to gain knowledge before the fact too. (That's what we do best)

In the meatime, consider this as a learning experience. Ask for help before doing such things and others will guide you. If that is not possible, let a Pro Installer do the initial work and hopefully they will get it right the this time.

Finally, if your present battery is more than 4-5 years old, it's on the way out. Most autoparts chains will test the BAT & ALT for free in the parking lot. If they spot a problem, ask the "Magic Question": What would you do if this were your ride? An honest/skilled Tech will give you options and take it from there.
