GRIN COFFEE -Drew Replies (7) newB on 05/12/2008 02:16:54 no comments?? -Drew MrBrownstone on 05/12/2008 18:05:57 Hee Hee Lotta hardware there man. I've been to so many of those things in the past ***gulp*** 19 years that nothing surprises me anymore. Interesting how some guys have so many woofers and amplifiers jammed into one vehicle. Those competitions used to be 4x as populated before all the manufacturers (Mfers) got involved in sponsoring cars so that the regular bloke couldn't compete. Now it's kinda a showcase for manufacturers...unless they don't show up anymore. At any rate, anything cool happen? swez on 05/12/2008 18:12:08 Looked at the pics and some are very well done. However, am not a "Bass-head" and it's not a personal focal point. But to those who aspire to such things, let them eat cake. Swez MrBrownstone on 05/12/2008 18:27:12 We did 150.9 in super street with 2 12" woofers 8 years ago and 153.4 with 2 18" woofers @ 4kW. I just couldn't justify putting in $20,000 to compete directly with mfr cars....especially when Memphis was sending 16 hopped-up amps every month to replace the ones they other guys torched. I had 3 Earthquake PHD2 amps--and had a revolving door on those every other show. Heck, at one time I had 5 Shredders in transit in addition to the 3 I had in stock. When we finally stopped welding circuit boards, the season ended. Granted, I sold a lot of those woofers & amps but didn't quite break even. Customer loyalty was zippo as when you buy a 2kW amplifier...where ya gonna go after that? USFLAG newB on 05/12/2008 18:59:57 interesting- this show seemed to be much more personal than you describe MrB. granted there are some sponsorship cars, i would say that anybody with extra cash can compete just as well especially in bass race. the biggest disadvantage i see when competing later in the year is that some of the larger Teams have their own TermLab, meaning they can practice bass race runs on their own and i have to guestimate when i'm in the lanes. speaking of mfers and such, i just remembered something i heard today... what if Opec broke up and each oil producer had to compete with each other good'ol capitalism style?? -Drew MrBrownstone on 05/14/2008 16:32:28 worse yet, what if we had to negotiate with 6 or 7 different entities before filling our tank. OPEC is useful because individually, it would be more difficult just to get a handle on them. Unfortunately, they control supply we have no control of our demand. swez on 05/15/2008 19:06:06 Yes, I heard that argument too about OPEC dividing and becoming more capitalistic in nature. It would be an interesting turn, but that block would lose the strangle hold they now enjoy in the world oil market. Another thing that drives up prices is when the US tries to build up reserves of crude stock. Am not schooled in such matters, but if we place huge orders to replenish our own reserves, (Mostly for military and emergency purposes, does that not drive up the price too?) Hell yeah it does !!!) And not just that, but who will refine it to usable fuels like gasoline, diesel, heating oil and other petro-chemical products? The US has not built any new refineries in the past 30 years. They won't either until the economics make it profitable and the lag time to build new refineries is several years along the time line. To me, this is a mad shell game in all. The best solution is for the US to become more innovative on energy production capabilities. (Solar, wind turbine, water turbines and geo-thermal are all doable on small and large scales) The crux of this issue seems more akin to getting better efficiency with what we do have on hand. (Land mass, geothermal sites, coal reserves for several hundered years) If we don't pay ourselves now, we'll pay others now and later. (They will reap the revenues and our standard of living will continue to falter) End rant, Swez PS Yes, smarter people then we, are making a killing right now. They will not allow intervention in a system that has proven so lucrative over many years. Wall Street loves it... Washington DC is trying to manage it and the US people are footing the bill. Something is wrong with the math in this equation... too many hands are reaping huge profits while the bulk of us beech and have to pay anyway. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
