i have a 1996 explorer with a pioneer deh p3800mp head unit(paid $100),running into 2 1-farad scoshe compacitors($20 each)(in process of upgrading) 1 of the compacitor runs a planet audio pa100d class d mono block($100) at 4ohms into 2-10" american pro vs9210 dvc($100) and a alpine 3522s($50) at 4ohm 1-12" plye blue wave pl1290bl dvc($40) the other compacitor runs a (solid audio ms26 manic series 400rms at 4ohm to 2-12" kenwood kfc-w3011 svc)=paid $150.i have all the amps but the alipine turned half way down and the bass boost on all of them turned all the way down.dont get me wrong it sounds great,u can barely sit in car when turned up a ways.its the hardest hitting system around here.just wondering if any advice to it or anything i might b doing wrong.i also wanted to see if anyone knows about the planet audio amp i was told it would push 2500rms wattsx1ohm?dont sound right to me.i use this site for my wiring diagrams for it http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9CyknGfszi4/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html .i am in the process of getting a 20 farad compacitor right now,i have the biggest battery that will fit in it,i have had no electricall problems since i got compacitors and new battery but my headlights do still dim a little when it hits some notes when running it hard.i bought all the items from friends off the street and threw it together slowly, not much invested in it right now,but looking to improve i want to get in some competitions here before to long.any tips or advice would be appericated.i have been working with systems my whole life but always set them by ear on adjustments.i just replaced the back glass cause i shattered it a month ago. It seems like you have quite a bit of gear and you're pulling some good db's if you're able to break glass. However you claim that you're still not satisfied? What exactly do you see or hear wrong? The fact that you are running so many amps & subs presents a problem to the electrical system. Capacitors really don't help much. If any thing helped, it was the battery, but you might could use a high output alternator to really turn on the juice. Also, using all the different woofers along with amps may present a tuning problem. You could simplify things a bit and have better performance as well as cosmetics to boot. If you plan on getting into competitions all will count. We'll wait for your reply to see what steps you could take. Ash, romeo22 on 04/28/2008 21:28:02 everything looks nice right now.i have all of the woofers in spec. boxes with room to add more. i plan on getting a bigger alternator before i enter any competitions. i am getting ready to throw a set of 8"s and a single 18" to the mix,i just bought the amps for them today. as for tuning,i do one set at a time, turn all the rest off and set it to where it sounds best to my ear, last time i had a db meter i was pulling about 160db's,since then i have upgraded a amp, added the compacitors and added the bigger battery i was just wondering by looking at the wiring digram in the link i posted if u agreed to the way it is set up,if any changes might help or just any ideals for the system in general. i used to have everything bridged and ran at 2ohms,but after finding that diagram i changed it to what each speaker called for, improved it greatly i thought a 20 farad compacitor would improve the sabilty of the bass response, keep the amps from surging Ash on 04/29/2008 17:30:47 Capacitors don't really add much. In fact they can hurt as they draw amperage to store, only to let out a spike of power, not a constant flow of power. The alternator & battery is the true source of constant power flow and is where money is better spent. Do you have any pics of your install? Quite sure we are all curious as to how you're fitting this in a Explorer. If it works for you then knock yourself out, but like stated there could be some tips some of us could give you to help out with points as in a competition there could be some value to cosmetics. What kind of battery do you have and have you done the Big 3 yet? Check the lower link and study... This has better attributes and is much cheaper than caps. http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/312025/page/1 Ash, Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
