I've just recently got ahold of some Diamond Audio 6 1/2 components with the cross-over's and tweeter's and I'm curious to find out,
- first, what you guys think about Diamond Audio &
- second what the benefits of component set vs. regular mid's and high's

diamond? eh, they are perty ok..

go to cardomain.com and check out my ride #2395420 and you will see the sarcasm in the comment as I am running 2 D9 800.4 amps and bi=amping my diamond hex 3-ways as my main speakers.

The advantage to componants is that the signal is seperated so that the speakers can play what they do best. If given enough power they will sound better then regular coax speakers.

The bad point is that the x-overs tend to eat a little bit of your power in the form of heat so they may need more power to get as loud as coax speakers, but would be cleaner.

Diamond makes a couple of different lines that range from good to FREEKIN BEAU-TI-FULL.

I was first introduced to diamond back in the mid 90's installing in the midwest. We had image dynamics at the time and could not imagine anything sounding better at the time. Our rep stopped by with a hex 6.5 set for us to test and see what we thought. IT was a slow day so we rigged them up in the soundboard with the speakers mounted with 2 screws, and the tweeters held on with tape. When they powered them up and we did a comparison to the ID stuff the hex speakers just blew them out of the water and I was immediatly a fan. The speakers I tested that day are the exact same thing they are making today, and that I now sport, they are that good.

Yeah that's what I've hear from poeple from time, to time is that they're rediculously clear. Not always as loud as they want but hey I'd rather have clearity over loud as hell any day! Right now I have Alpine Type S 6x9's in the front doors and MB Quart 6 1/2's in the back doors. At one time it all was MB Quart and it sounded fantastic!!! Thanks for the feedback!

Never got to audition any of that brand, but for what they cost they better be as good as they say.

Personally for the money I'm into DIY setups. This mostly consists of raw drivers often used in home audio that is built way better quality wise. It's amazing how 8 ohm components ran with less power can be just as loud and with even less distortion.

Yes it's a bit harder choosing components, but the quality is often far better than what you get in actual car audio for the same price. Also you are not limited to what drivers you use like in the pre-made package stuff. This also allows you to go all active with a crossover which will open up a lot of possibilities.

The control factor is key here as often car audio manufacturers don't give raw T/S parameters so you can manipulate how the speakers are used. Makes a big difference if you're veering from "normal" installs. There is a price to pay however, since the economy is starting to suffer more companies are pulling away from the raw driver market. This makes the amount of usable drivers a little harder to find, but there still are a good amount of viable gear out there. Partsexpress & Madisound are some of the best sources for this type of setup.

Not for everyone I'll admit, but it sure is fun to beat the system.... no pun intended.

Ash,
