Tha Gen light is telling you that power is still flowing out of the battery after the key is turned off. If the power draw is strong enough and last long enough, it will drain the BAT.

The trick here is to find out what circuit/devices are still drawing power and repair that circuit. If the Gen lamp stays on all the time, pulling fuses one at a time will help you figure out what circuit is the culprit and then work from there. You may need a buddy to observe the Gen light as you pull fuses. When the Gen lamp goes out, you have found the circuit fault device.

Tech Tip: We can get a feel for how strong the power draw is by removing the NEG terminal from the BAT in the dark with a flashlight on hand. If you see a healthy spark when lifting the NEG terminal from the battery, there's lots of juice flowing somewhere and that could mean a short circuit or a high current device is drawing power to drain your BAT. It might even be the Alternator is shorting out and needs to be repaired or replaced. A good autoparts store can test it for free and tell you what's up here.

PS Also, look at your amp turn on light when the key is out. If the lamp is still lit, the amp is not shutting off and that's your culprit. Pull the REMote line off the amp and see if the lamp goes out. If yes, a manual Remote turn on switch might be an easy solution.

That does not sound/smell good... it makes me think the windings on the generator are getting so hot that the insulating material on the wiring is actually starting to melt off. (Too much current draw?)

If you run the vehicle for a short time with your sound system playing at moderate to stronger levels, does the ALT feel pretty warm to hot on your hand?

A proximity test might help... not to touch the ALT with bare hand, but run hand close to casing to detect heat after shuting off the engine or use jersey gloves. They transfer heat well, but won't melt like neoprene or other non-cloth gloves. (Smell anything burning in there?)

You may be wise to drop by a good autoparts dealer and ask them to test your ALT output. Also, test for current flow in the system after the engine is shut off. They'll know how to do that.
