Hello,
I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee that I bout used. In the stereo setup I found a Jensen 2 channel "Seaker Level to RCA Adapter" with left and right gain adjustment.

I cant find anything on the web about this thing and would like to know how it is suppose to be connected and work. It has red and black female RCA plugs. The other connections are gray-gray/black......white-white/black and black.(5 wires total).

Would appreciate any help possible. The thing was laying disconnected inside a panel in the rear of my Jeep.

Thank you.

This is called a line output converter. It is used to connect an amplifier (usually for a subwoofer) to the factory wiring. Factory radios do not have RCA outputs, but most aftermarket amplifiers need RCA inputs. This device taps into the speaker wires (white for the left side, gray for the right, and solid black to ground) and steals a little bit of the signal (high level) and converts it into RCA (low level) output.

Google "LOC" or "line output converter"

Thanks cplkittle. From what I read, the LOC actually reduces output wattage from the deck unit and the is adjusted by the right and left gain pots on the LOC. Am I understanding this correctly.

A lower and cleaner signal for the amp?

Thanks again, Doug

yes you are correct. most amps use the rca level input with is a lower level VOLTAGE then the stock head unit puts out. This would have been used to run an amp and possibly a sub from the stock deck.
